The Mountain Home Fire Department will hold its annual Open House on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 5:15-8:15 p.m. at Fire Station #1 behind Paul's Market.

The event not only teaches the local children who attend the event about fire safety, but also gives them a chance to ride the fire trucks.

The children also will be treated to milk and cookies and receive toy badges, helmets, stickers and coloring books from the Fire Department.

Attending the event will be Smokey The Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog, who is the official mascot of the National Fire Protection program.

Taking part in the open house will be representatives from the Mountain Home Police Department, Mountain Home Air Force Base, the Bureau of Land Management, the Elmore County Extrication team and Elmore County Ambulance Service.
