Elisabeth Stephens and Ryan Eckstrom had Mountain Home's only first-place efforts at the Bishop Kelly Invitational Track and Field Meet Thursday at Bishop Kelly. For the second straight year, a team of students from Hacker Middle School won top honors during a robotics competition held earlier this month in Twin Falls. Becka Mortensen stood transfixed as Cal Clevenger worked to build a campfire. A student from West Elementary School, the youngster watched as the trail boss struck a piece of flint with a rounded piece of steel, which caused a few feeble sparks to fly into a piece of dry kindling. Betty Jean Gilbert, 80, of Mountain Home, passed away at home on April 21, 2014. Per her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Betty was born Aug.25, 1933, in Yankton, S.D., the daughter of Albert and Zelpha Smith. Betty moved to California with her family -- mom, dad and sister Shirley -- in 1941, where they all stayed for many years. She graduated in 1951 from Richmond High School...
