John was born in Greenville, S.C., on June 24, 1921. He lived there until he entered the US Navy in 1939. He served on the USS West Virginia during WWII and was a Pearl Harbor survivor...

Dear editor: Ever walk into the wrong place? I thought a few times that I'd done that while attending the GOP Convention in Sandpoint this past 15th and 14th. Going up there as an Elmore County delegate, I was not prepared for what I saw and heard. Mountain Home has the cheese factory and then the minimum wage jobs of Walmart and fast food joints. The rest of the county has absolutely nothing to offer...

Road construction is occurring on Idaho Highway 51, between Beet Dump Road and Interstate 84 Business. Traffic is reduced to one lane and the speed limit has been reduced to 35 mph. The Elmore County Fair will be held July 14-19 in Glenns Ferry. The theme for this year's event is "Country Dreams and Old Blue Jeans." Beverly Lucia, a longtime volunteer and supporter, will serve as the Grand Marshall of the fair. For the first time, the rodeo and the fair will be run at separate times. The ICA/IPCA Rodeo was moved to July 25 and 26 (starting at 8 p.m.). The rodeo date was locked in for this year and the county fair had to be moved up so it could include a carnival...
