Be fire conscious this year
The fire danger out there right now is unbelievable. After last year, you may not think there's anything left to burn, but in fact most of the county is one spark away from turning into a conflagration.
And this week, near the town of Yarnell, Ariz., we've gotten a terrible look at what that can mean.
So this week, we strongly urge everyone to be especially careful with their use of fireworks. Please don't use any that aren't legal in Idaho. Resist your urge to blow up your small portion of the planet -- because you might burn down the rest of ours.
The local firemen put on a great fireworks display -- and it's free. At home, limit yourself to the "safe and sane" fireworks you can control. Avoid bottle rockets and firecrackers like the plague.
Remember, if you start a fire, you are responsible for the costs of fighting it, which at a minimum run a couple thousand dollars an hour, plus the costs of the damage the fire caused. Is that bottle rocket worth it?
Things are too critical out there right now. The fire danger is extreme.
Think beyond your personal gratification for loud noises and sparkly lights.
Be fire conscious and fire safe this Fourth of July.
