KHGal, I've been around, just not penning articles. I do appreciate the thought. Also glad you had a good trip home. BTW, I love the wheel covers on the buckboard.

  • That's very interesting.

    1. Dunkin Donuts did a survey using over 21,000 of their customers. They found that 99.9 % like pastry.

    2. Idaho Camera did a survey of 3,000 walk-in customers. 89.5 % think that everyone should own a camera.

    3. PoliceOne an on-line store selling body armor, body cameras, and firearms to not only police but retired police, security guards, and civilians found that most of their clientele think that people should be allowed to have as many firearms as they want.

  • Hey boys, where's the musket practice this week? The patriots are worried you're sights will be off slightly when it all begins.

Also a Glen Beck poll showed 93% of the Tea Party cabal haven't smiled in 60 years proving liberal are winning and communist are ruling the USA.

Well, Mike, I'm not one who puts a lot of stead in polls either. It might be my Elmore County upbringing to a degree, but I remember when these things were called "Opinion" polls. I don't see where dropping the first word changes what they really are or that it somehow makes them factual. Just my two cents.

And the idea that a company "knows how to select people to participate in the poll so that it is truly a random sampling and therefore much more accurate" seems to be an oxymoron.

    -- Posted by wh67 on Thu, Apr 11, 2013, at 11:54 AM
  • Wrong again Pat. Stats are ALWAYS taken according to demograhics. Even your soap company would look at people within a certain socio-economic group which comprises their potential customer base. Porche won't put up billboards in Compton anymore than Family Dollar will in Hollywood. In other words, the NRA will poll in Texas, while Pelosi will poll in San Fran. "lies, damned lies, and statistics". Unless of course, you provide a reference, then we will all automatically assume it is water tight and bullet proof. ;)

-- Posted by sixguns on Thu, Apr 11, 2013, at 2:20 PM
  • Riiiiight! And people like you actually believe that polls taken in Ca, Ill, and New England are actually representitive of the collective U.S. I'll go to a convent and provide stats that 100% of women are against abortion AND birth control. The first thing you learn in stats 101 is how to manipulate them. Yes, this gun-toting, teabagging patriot is educated. scaaaaarrrryyyy

  • Hey boys. We're going to have to get a bigger marching field and practice will have to be much longer as the Tea Party cabal is growing each day. Are all you boys part of the patriot Tea Party war machine or are some of you just the supporting woman folk? Looking forward to seeing our local and well regulated militia out there while the weather is cool. Sighting in your muskets is important before they come to take them away. Hup, two, three, four. About face and do the Dosado.

  • This blog sister, aka, Natasha the Bolchevik, isn't changing the station any time soon. When the Tea Party cabal is in the mood to tell intelligent people we are on the verge of economic collapse we just cannot turn away that train wreck. Even the constitutionally smart fellers from the Tea Party think we have freedom of speech on a for profit website gave me a few good giggles.

And bazookaman, my boss and now my clients are calling me Natasha the Bolchevik. You are becoming quite the celebrity in town the same way Bozo did so many years ago. And don't even think you are more moderate than Archie.

See ya at marching practice boys.

    Patrick_A,

In that comment, you say : "I was disappointed that this blog was yet another discussion of guns."

Key words - "disappointed", "this blog".

Zook, whatever reaction or emotion you may have from reading this blog or my comments are your responsibilty.

    How's that Patrick?

  • Oh sixguns, my dear sweet cabal member, I'm not just a troll. I offer myself up to the Tea Party as another boogeyman. You boys need to have things to be scared of so you can run around with your guns proclaiming to be patriots. Will we be seeing you at marching practice? Maybe the local LE personnel can help sight in one of your sixguns. Slither, slither boys

    -- Posted by sara-connor on Fri, Apr 12, 2013, at 3:05 PM
  • Moral majority, you want to know why local law enforcement would refuse to participate in any sort of gun grabbing? That would depend on just how scary these gun grabbing boogeymen really are wouldn't it? Have our local law enforcement personnel actually seen these gun grabbing boogeymen or are they a figment of your Tea Party fermented brain. Maybe our local LE personnel can post pictures of these gun grabbers in the newspaper.

Just to be perfectly clear, I am not Patrick_A mother. But if it's one of those Tea Party fantasies you boys like so much, dream away. See ya at marching practice boys and don't forget your muskets.

  • Wow, that article could be viewed by some as slander. That is by far, the saddest thing to come out of these blogs. I, like most on here, just like sharing ideas, and love a good debate. I like to see things from other angles, and try to find the "truth" in the middle. I read Fox, CNN, and Huffington. It seems with this latest link, that this venue for sharing ideas may well be over. Hope whomever is responsible is proud. Well done! Well done!

  • I know free thinker is indeed H4A, Homer, Buckshot61.

I can tell by his copy and paste jobs and by his wording. "Cheerleader" comes to mind

Zook you know exactly who he is. Why ask him if he is a gun owner? Who isn't a gun owner in Idaho, probably 90% are gun owners. You have met him. Just because he is going by a different screen name doesn't make him to be a different person. You took him under your wing and met up with him in person. If you doubt me, so be it, you would never admit its him even if you knew for certain its him. That's how you roll............

I just bet you one million dollars (which I don't have, and wish I did) that it is him..........who ever Homer, Buckshot61, and H4A it's HIM no matter how you look at it!

-- Posted by Podkaine on Sat, Apr 13, 2013, at 11:07 PM
  • That's a pretty depraved article that has nothing to do with liberals and maybe a little something to do with law enforcement which could be either conservatives or liberals. What kind of things are you reading Free Thinker? You maybe should get some help and I mean this in the nicest possible way. This isn't normal.

-- Posted by Podkaine on Sat, Apr 13, 2013, at 11:45 PM
  • I imagine the article was titillating to you Free Thinker which is why you were reading that article. I'm not turned on by that kind of thing.

Maybe you should look up the word slander. I imagine that only those with an IQ below 80 mistake slander for libel but you seem to do it. In any case it isn't libel either if it's true which if I remember correctly it said that the liberals on the blogs felt that you weren't very bright and that you had some impulse control issues. I suspect that is true.

  • Ever since we heard about the Mt Home Tea Party revolution in our apartment we have discussed who would be involved. Like the first revolution we naturally assumed the Tea Party cabal would be on one side of the marching field and government forces would be on the other.

Along sashays Free Thinker with kudos from bazookaman giving us a fuller picture of the real enemy and reason behind the new Mt Home Tea Party revolution. As you'll see below, it appears the angry, old, bitter cabal are mad their Norman Rockwell's America has ended. And Free Thinker and bazookaman agree who the real enemy to their 1940's perfectly painted life might be.

("Blacks, Latinos, Feminists, Gays, Government Workers, Union Members, Environmental Extremists, The Media, Hollywood, uninformed young people, the "forever needy," the chronically unemployed, illegal aliens and other "fellow travelers" have ended Norman Rockwell's America.")

Well boys, it's time to Tea Party Man Up. Your last minute revolution prep at the Boise Gun Show will be complete today. Don't disappoint us in the coming week. Shock and awe boys!

Here is a link with the entire text of the Toomey-Manchin amendment to the gun control bill before the Senate:

    http://www.toomey.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=968

From what I see, the biggest reason for pro-gun Senators to lean toward supporting it is a provision that looks as if it pretty much forbids ANY attempt to create a national gun registry.

As I understand it, it would have to get 60 votes to pass, and I can't see Sen. Feinstein and her cohorts signing off on that.

    Could be an interesting week.

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Sun, Apr 14, 2013, at 10:23 PM
  • Just need a little clarification from the ultra right wing of the conservative party. This revolution and army you boys have been working on for 20 years? You now seem to indicate you won't be using this army unless you are attacked first, right? Local law enforcement personnel, being such big gun supporters, who will they side with in this fight? Is it possible you revolutionaries could get local law enforcement to make a public statement to declare sides? I want to know if the people I pay to protect and serve are going to be just bought and paid for tin stars. I could use a little more information on these FEMA Camps too. Who will be running them, where will the closest camp be located and will black helicopters be involved? Shock and awe boys.

    New on the anti-gun side:

    https://my.barackobama.com/page/s/national-call-day-pledge?source=em13_20130414_...

Reportedly, it is a "pledge" that respondents will call their Senators on April 16th and urge support for the expanded gun control bill.

I'd say that would be a good idea for pro-gun folks as well.

  • I found this to be interesting

Gun show incidents are giving idiots a bad name

    Wednesday, April 17, 2013

    Mountain Home News

    Dear editor:

So, the story is that Saturday, one genius managed to place a loaded gun on display at the Fort Boise Gun Show. A second genius picked up the gun and fired it. The bullet hit some other guns and sent shrapnel flying. Two casualties to bystanders, including an eye injury, which could be quite serious.

This is about the fifth story I've read this year of accidental shootings at gun shows. Maybe Congress should be considering "foreground" checks in addition to background checks for gun shows. Foreground checks would try to determine whether the people organizing gun shows and displaying weapons are actually smart enough to do so without accidentally killing someone. These people give us average idiots a bad name, and I find it hard enough being an idiot without that.

The thing to take away from this incident, besides the obvious fact that guns are dangerous, is never assume a gun is not loaded. We all know guns are not supposed to be loaded at a gun show. But that doesn't mean it's OK to pick one up and squeeze the trigger without checking to make sure there's no ammunition in it. And, if you don't know how to check, don't pick the gun up. Ask someone who knows to show you how to check it. That's how we all learned. Somebody showed us.

    -- Jim Breslin

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Apr 17, 2013, at 1:04 PM
  • I wonder if bazookaman was there? If so maybe he has some input on the gun show for us?

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Apr 17, 2013, at 1:25 PM
  • It seems the ultra white wing of the conservative party in Mt Home is dead set against background check. Why?, used to be the first question to our friends who state they are against background checks to buy an instrument who's only job is to kill. After being told repeatedly, sternly and vehemently, background checks will lead to a national registry of guns and gun owners. My only response to that was w.r.o.n.g.

It seems the ultra white wing of the conservative party in Mt Home follows the old adage, tell a lie enough times and it becomes a fact. The fact is the legislation that just got voted down explicitly prohibited a federal registry. Under that bill, anyone trying to create a federal registry could face prison time of 15 years behind bars. By all mean, we need you guys to keep on high-fiving each other every time the Tea Party kills another exceptional idea. I will be spreading the word for the next 4 years. The ultra white wing of the conservative party wants their ideas spread and so do democrats for completely different reason. I hear the last minute prep for your revolution went well boys. Keep em loaded at all times especially at those gun shows.

Today's Senate actions were not filibusters. They were floor debates and binding votes.

As many as 15 Democratic Senators voted against individual amendments regarding gun control/safety today. The assault weapons ban failed on a 40-60 vote. The high capacity magazine ban went down 46-54. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/17/assault-weapons-ban_n_3103120.html?utm_...

And the background check amendment compromise mustered 54 ayes, exactly 90% of the 60 votes required for passage.

As I understand it, there are two other amendments that will come to a vote tomorrow, but the majority of the reforms the President and others wanted appear to be gone for now.

  • "FOR NOW" 2 very important key words. It's not over yet..........

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Apr 17, 2013, at 8:55 PM

    Dead wrong, huh?

filibuster - Informal term for any attempt to block or delay Senate action on a bill or other matter by debating it at length, by offering numerous procedural motions, or by any other delaying or obstructive actions.

    http://www.senate.gov/reference/glossary_term/filibuster.htm

cloture - The only procedure by which the Senate can vote to place a time limit on consideration of a bill or other matter, and thereby overcome a filibuster. Under the cloture rule (Rule XXII), the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours, but only by vote of three-fifths of the full Senate, normally 60 votes.

    http://www.senate.gov/reference/glossary_term/cloture.htm

Another U. S. Senate publication for your review:

    http://www.senate.gov/CRSReports/crs-publish.cfm?pid='0E%2C*PLW%3D%22P%20%20%0A

Would seem to me, since a cloture vote was taken on SB649 on Aprill 11 and passed with 68 votes that the Senate is operating under cloture, not fillibuster.

I found the Huffington Post article interesting mostly because it named the Democrats that "broke party ranks" and voted against some of these measures.

And while I personally don't consider that publication a "go to" source, I read their articles from time to time, just to see where the left of center movement is today. I treat Fox News and associated sites much the same way.

    That's just me.

I am curious how many (or if any) of the votes yesterday could, and I repeat, could also just be the result of the Senators (on both sides) responding to their constituents responses on this very highly publicized issue.

  • Thanks TK. Yes. It has always been a rule, just never enforced to this level. Facebook is KILLING careers. Google it. He is our Commander In Chief after all. So it's the same as cussing your unit commander. This is the first I've seen folks discharged for it. Kinda tells ya something.

  • Sixguns gets it as does the super bazookaman. They get it that the boogeyman isn't just one person or a small group. It's millions of people and the list of groups are getting longer each day.

    How so?

Illegal aliens are now being portrayed as having more rights than military members. Really? What are these rights you don't have. Maybe they are top secret rights only known to the Tea Party cabal? Boogeyman much?

Military personnel under the Obama administration are being kicked out in numbers because they diss the CINC? We think these same military members will find dissing their CEO's on the outside will result in the same rough boot treatment but never let facts get in the way of your right wing victimization pity party. That Obama boogeyman is a military member booting folks out and not really the President of the USA.

And the favorite boogeyman of all Tea Party cabal members is the FEMA Camps. We always ask for directions to the camps but no one will let us in on this best kept secret. Why is it only the Tea Party cabal knows where there camps are located? We're getting a little suspicious.

Oh, let's never forget the right wing paranoid delusion that some liberal or even a foreigner loaded a gun at the Boise Gun Show just to make all gun owners look bad. We bet it was one of those Blacks, Latinos, Feminists, Gays, Government Workers, Union Members, Environmental Extremists, The Media, Hollywood, uninformed young people, the "forever needy," the chronically unemployed or even illegal aliens that loaded that gun.

And all liberals are excited about your long planned revolution. However, we're beginning to think this revolution isn't real and the white wing of the conservative party might have been pulling our collective legs. Well, boys, you really fooled us. Good one.

We sincerely hope the Tea Party continues the tough job of uncovering more and more boogeymen and documenting these scary groups to the general public. We enjoy the camp fire stories almost as much as you guys need them to feel relevant in this world. Keep tilting at wind mills boys.

  • Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis) is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality. Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas such as free and fair elections, civil rights, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free trade, and private property.

  • PA, I agree it's impossible to "assign" values to a political party. This is because societies tend to become more accepting of social deviance as they progress, whereas individuals tend to become more conservative with age. In other words, an elderly liberal would tend to hold higher values than possibly a young repub. I bet JFK was more conservative in the 60s, than McCain is now. Get it?

  • Here's how well background checks work:

Most people believe that criminals should not be able to possess firearms lawfully. Yet,

our current laws permit many people who have been convicted of crimes--most misdemeanor

crimes adjudicated in adult court and felony crimes handled in juvenile court--to possess

firearms. Data from two studies of individuals who have committed the most serious crimes

indicate that prior to committing these crimes, the perpetrators were not prohibited from

possessing a firearm under federal law. A recent study, based on surveys of inmates in state

prisons, examined the criminal history and ages of persons imprisoned for committing crimes

with a gun in the 13 states with standards for legal gun ownership that do not go beyond those set

in federal law. At the time when they committed the gun crime leading to their incarceration,

only 27 percent of these gun offenders were prohibited from possessing firearms because they

had previously been convicted of a felony. Of these offenders, 60 percent could legally possess

guns prior to committing the gun crime that led to their incarceration, including four percent who

had prior misdemeanor convictions involving violence and/or firearms, six percent convicted of

other misdemeanors, five percent convicted of a felony in a juvenile court, and 13 percent with

    prior arrests but no convictions.28

  • No, PA. I read it all. I was premising that the attempt at merely imposing universal background checks "as is" would have accomplished nothing. I chose the article because even you wouldn't discount the reference. Problem is, the legislators don't do as much research as you and I, so they try to impose silly "blanket" laws that change NOTHING. BTW, my search was "What percentage of violent criminals obtained guns legally". Type that in google, and you'll see my reference.

-- Posted by sixguns on Sat, Apr 20, 2013, at 11:57 AM
  • Because TK, the make, model, SN..etc is already on the FFL forms. And because criminals, don't respect laws. Hence, they are criminals. The answer is easy. STOP paroling violent offenders. Check this out: http://bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/VOSPATS.PDF

  • BTW TK, I agree with the buyers only part. Not universal. I shouldn't have to involve the ATF to give my son his first .22 rifle, passed down from my grandfather. How is a 10 yr old supposed to pass a background check?

  • PA, you place too much trust in the feds if you think they wouldn't use a registry to disarm. Just like Obama used Bush's Patriot Act against the repubs, promised to abolish it, yet he's two terms in and it's STILL THERE! Big Brother won't let go of control. See?

-- Posted by sixguns on Sat, Apr 20, 2013, at 4:14 PM
  • TK, thanks for making my point. As a card-carrying Libertarian, I think we lock away the wrong folks and thereby let the real bad guys out. We let pot smokers and drug addicts occupy so much space, that we are forced to parol child molesters. Take Cali's Three Strike Rule for example. Another "blanket" law that lets one-time murderers out, while condeming the small time felons. PA, my point is that we should be controlling the feds, VS the other way around.

Patrick_A, The portion of this latest bill may have added stiffer penalties for anyone creating a national gun registry, but a national gun registry has been against the law since 1986.

The 1986 Firearms Owners' Protection Act specifically forbids registration of firearms records at 18 U.S.C. 926(a):

No such rule or regulation prescribed after the date of the enactment of the Firearms Owners' Protection Act may require that records required to be maintained under this chapter or any portion of the contents of such records, be recorded at or transferred to a facility owned, managed, or controlled by the United States or any State or any political subdivision thereof, nor that any system of registration of firearms, firearms owners, or firearms transactions or dispositions be established. Nothing in this section expands or restricts the Secretary's [1] authority to inquire into the disposition of any firearm in the course of a criminal investigation. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/926

    Sixguns,

I don't know how "successful" they were, but they generated a lot of commentary without anybody getting the boot - so far anyway. :)

  • Good TK, very close. It's A,E,F#m, then the D. If you sneak in the Pentatonic Scale, then you have the sweet run. I've been playing since I was 15, but only a few years ago took the time to actually LEARN the chords and scales. So, I'm still a rookie :).

The point is though that the law would have not allowed a registry so not only did improved background checking fail to pass because of the Filibuster rule but there is still no law preventing a federal registry.

    -- Posted by Patrick_A on Sat, Apr 20, 2013, at 4:37 PM

" there is still no law preventing a federal registry".

My point is there IS an existing law preventing one.

Thursday's Senate votes defeated a number of amendments to the bill originally introduced by Sen. Feinstein, including expanded background checks.

As with November's election, it's a done deal. And since there are still those in DC(including the President)that have deemed this "round one", I see no reason to drop my guard.

You'll have to pardon me for believing that prohibiting the development of rules and/or regulations for establishing a national registry would pretty much make it unlawful to create one.

As for 90% of Americans being angered by the failure of the Senate to pass the background check expansion, that number isn't far off from how Americans tend to view Congress in general. http://www.gallup.com/poll/161210/congress-approval-stagnant-low-level.aspx.

I heard Sen. Risch say that there was an outpouring of opposition to this bill from across the nation. The way he said it made me wonder if it might even have been from both sides of the aisle.

I've also heard people imply that the defeat was due to re-election concerns from those facing runs in the 2014 elections.

I saw Rep. Pelosi and another Calfornia Dem. (Thompsom I think??) on C-Span talking about a House bill that's either been or will be introduced.

Staunch gun control advocates are admitting that stiffer background checks would have had no effect on the Newtown and other of the mass shootings because the background check system is woefully lacking when it comes to mental health records.

    I'll watch and listen.

    Trevor,

Zook's experiences in combat are relevant in 2013. Every bit as relevant as those of all living vets, regardless of the combat zones they served in or even if they didn't serve in combat. Your comment is at best a disappointment.

  • Here's a gun issue that's really been keeping me up at night:

Remington 870, or Mossberg 500? THERE'S and age old debate for ya! I prefer the Mossy for three reasons:

    1. I like the safety on top rather than benind the trigger.

    2. The ejectors can be replaced with a screwdriver VS the Remmy's being milled into the reciever requiring a gun smith's help.

    3. Mossys have an open loading gate whereas remmys have the weird lift gate causing FTFs so bad they need to be stripped. Thoughts?

    Remington 870,

    1. With the safety behind the trigger, you can't have your finger on the trigger when you release the safety (or at least I can't).

    2. I've run tens of thousands of rounds through two 870's and never had an ejector failure. I did have a firing pin break one time, but it "waited" until a few days after duck season was over and we were shooting trap at the range.

    3. Most feeding problems I had were due to debris (usually seeds) getting in behind the release cams and releasing two shells at once. It's amazing how quickly one can strip a shotgun when there are ducks or geese in the air.

    4. The bolt lock on the 870 doesn't drop until the slide is pulled backward while the 500 will move the slide backward and even out of a shooter's hand in some cases. Not a biggie, just a quirk I have.

    5. The 870 is considerably heavier which can be an issue if you're chasing chukars around or trying to swing back on that second quail.

    6. The Mossberg does have an advantage in that you can switch between 2 ¾ and 3 inch barrels at will while the Remington requires a "magnum" receiver for shooting 3 inch loads.

Truth is both have their pros and cons.

  • Just learned a couple new things about Mossberg. They passed the military torture test, whereas Rem declined to robust their design. Also, Mossberg and Sons is the oldest family owned gun maker in the U.S. (I like that stuff). Guess I'll go with the 590A1 (9-shots) for my purposes. Zook, I love my over & unders too. One is an Italian-made Winchester that I could stare at for hours. Thanks for the inputs.
