2012 Children's Fairy Tale
Posted Friday, May 11, at 10:03 AM
A former co-worker posted this yesterday on his Facebook page. It brought a smile to my face because I can hear my 3 year old grandson saying the same thing. "A good story you can tell even your youngest child and they will know the difference between a liberal Democrat and a conservative Republican...

November is a Ways Away
Posted Wednesday, April 25, at 2:54 PM

I wouldn't normally use the content of an e-mail for a blog entry, but this one seemed to fit some of the on-going discussions here. And while it's taken a few months to make it to my inbox and that of my baby-boomer friends, the message will be timely for a few more months. I did change one word to make it allowable for posting, but other than that, the rest is verbatim. I have no idea who the author is, but here is what it said:...

Young Wildlife Rescue
Posted Sunday, April 22, at 9:23 PM

In early May 1976, the family went camping to the upper end of Anderson Ranch Reservoir. We left right after work Friday and got there in time to claim one of our favorite un-developed camp areas. It had been quite cool for a while and Friday was the first day it had warmed nicely. Typically, the warm, unstable atmosphere led to a tremendous thunder storm just before sunset. The lightning and thunder gave way to steady, light rain and enough wind to raise huge waves on the water...

Cow Tracks to Two Tracks
Posted Wednesday, April 11, at 3:13 PM

Over the past 50 years or so, I've wandered much of south western and central Idaho taking in the outdoors that my father urged me to enjoy and use. I put over 7,500 miles on my little yellow Honda Trail 90 before I finally sold it for money to pay for school. ...

Lewis and Clark's Most Valuable Tool?
Posted Sunday, March 4, at 12:25 PM

A couple of days back, I told someone that I was going to try to check out a local source of good quality gasoline. About five minutes after I sent that e-mail, the "Big Brown Truck" pulled up out front, squeaky brakes and all. Now first off, this was sometime after noon and Brown usually hits this part of town at around 8:00 AM. But I was anxiously waiting for a package from a fellow in Washington State, so maybe this was it...

Food for Thought
Posted Tuesday, February 28, at 10:44 AM

This is content of an e-mail from a trusted source who does HIS homework before sending e-mail. I can assure you that the words are meaningful to him and he trusts that they will not be lost on me. My hope is that they point out the precarious position the "best intentions" of the documents this nation was built around faired in the course of history:...

Tribute to Veterans?

This picture was embedded in an e-mail I got yesterday from a fellow here in Boise. The message with the image was a follows: "A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including his life."...

Thought for the Day
Posted Monday, January 2, at 11:43 PM

On June 1, 1865, Senator Charles Sumner commented on what is now considered the most famous speech by President Abraham Lincoln. In his eulogy on the slain president, he called it a "monumental act." He said Lincoln was mistaken that "the world will little note, nor long remember what we say here." Rather, the Bostonian remarked, "The world noted at once what he said, and will never cease to remember it. The battle itself was less important than the speech."...

A New Year Tomorrow
Posted Saturday, December 31, at 9:17 PM

"As the ice circle spins within the eddy, it will gain in thickness and diameter until eventually it becomes too big for the pool, breaks up, and pieces move into the main current, allowing another circle to begin forming." From US Army Corps of Engineers research...

A Story I Got in My E-Mailbox (Right next to my Door)
Posted Tuesday, December 27, at 11:34 PM

"Bear Gun .... Small, yes, but properly employed, very effective. My personal favorite bear defense gun has always been my Beretta Jetfire in .22 short! I've found over the years when hiking in bear country I never leave home without it. While other hikers haul around heavy large caliber rifles I dont even notice it in my pocket...

Vince's Worthwhile Website -

I have a used a website over the years that has a lot of good content about dozens of interesting topics. I have never encountered a pop-up ad or the pesky new "undertone" adds that drive me to wish I had some of Bazzokaman's ammunition. GRRRRRRR!...

Opening the door
Posted Wednesday, December 14, at 3:57 PM

Now that I am a member, I'll post things from time to time or watch my grandson as the need arises. I am left handed because I am right minded (according to countless studies) but I play guitar right handed. If the studies are correct, I am therefore left minded. ...

I was born September 17, 1949 in Caldwell, Idaho. Like Idaho's climate, I have a dry sense of humor. It may be a result of faulty genetics, but I come from sturdy stock. My great grandfather once served as a postmaster right on the line between Camas and Elmore Counties and is buried on what was once his land. According to research my only sibling has done, we generally agree that he started his westward trek in Indiana sometime after 1838 and died of pneumonia in 1911. If Google earth is correct, there are at least 2.5 million average steps between Ripley County, Indiana and his gravesite.
