  • I got this out there in cyberspace

Isn't this a Christian thing to do?

Currently, many illegal immigrants must leave the country before they can ask the federal government to waive a three- to 10-year ban on legally coming back to the U.S. The length of the ban depends on how long they have lived in the U.S. without permission.

On Friday, the Obama administration proposed changing the rule to let children and spouses ask the government to decide on the waiver request before they head to their home country to seek a visa to return here legally.

The illegal immigrants would still have to go abroad to finish the visa process, but getting a provisional waiver approved in advance would reduce the time they are out of the country from months to days or weeks, said Alejandro Mayorkas, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

The purpose is "to minimize the extent to which bureaucratic delays separate Americans from their families for long periods of time," Mayorkas told reporters.

  • Neither one of you boys answered my question. Your church goers right ?

    answer my question please.......

The wavier has been in place long before Obama was running the country,he is only asking to change the time from 6 months to 3 months.

  • I am only going to make a few observations:

if something that you are doing is wrong. How is it right to expect someone to validate it for you?

If we lived in another country, they would do the same thing. Why do we need to make an exception?

If a person is not here legally, they are breaking the law and if they happen to have a family here, they have personally caused their pain and separation, with their choices.

On the other side of the fence, you have people who come here legally, abide by all of the laws of the land' contribute to society, pay their taxes and work hard to become an American Citizen. They don't demand that you raise their country's flag up with the USA's. They aren't out there protesting.

I don't think that being a churchgoer means that you must bear all of the burden of someone else's transgressions. We need to be compassionate, but we do not have to be door mats either.

Someone needs to realize that this is all about votes. Get out the vote was the rallying cry in 2008. Voting Shenanigans have been around for centuries. Each generation has a new spin on the deception.

And then you have those who really want to do everyone harm and have come into this country with that specific purpose. Sadly, they far out-number the peaceful families that have established themselves in a community. It is their destruction that costs the tax-payers countless millions, while they reap the benefits of their own illegal activities.

So how do you be fair? You have to go back to the law. If the blueprint of the law has always been clear, which it has, everyone has to follow the laws of the land. And the Constitution. Whatever is dictated to become an American Citizen, must be adhered to in order that we can make headway in this mess.

We uses fences to keep our own cattle in and to prevent our neighbors cows from straying into our property. We aren't discriminating against our neighbor's cows, we are simply protecting our own interests as well as our neighbors.

That doesn't make us less Christian, in fact, it means that we respect our neighbor's property as much as our own.

  • Good comment KH Gal and thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I agree to some of it but when it comes to being a Christian I was taught not to turn my back on a neighbor or someone that needs help and this includes everyone, legal or illegal and including those sitting in prison.

If they didn't need help we wouldn't have organizations that help those in need including Christian Charity's or Ministers going to prison's to visit the immates.

Our God is a forgiving God, to bad some that walk among us can't be the same way...

  • Helping is one thing, enabling them to continue to break a law is another. You can help someone by giving them water. However, if you help them trespass on someone elses property, then you are aiding and abetting them in the act of breaking the law.

God does forgive, but that is between Him and the individual who wants forgiveness. If they continue to disobey, there are consequences for their actions. We have to respect that too. That doesn't mean that we are less Christian.

When you know what is right and good, you can convey that to people without sounding judgmental. That is a two way street for us all. Including those who point fingers and say that so and so is not forgiving enough. That simply isn't their call.

Jesus was humble enough to wash His disciple's feet, however, He still called them out on their transgressions. Remember Peter? He loved them, but knew their weaknesses.

We can love people but hate the sin. That doesn't make us phobic. On the other hand those who appoint us as such, are just as guilty of being judgmental.

What is both easier and more difficult to do is trying to see people and situations as God sees them. We cannot drag Him down to our level of thinking, nor can we presume that we are wiser than He is. We might see an entire vista standing on one mountain and think that we understand everything, but God knows what is just over the next mountain that we cannot see with our human eyes.

  • One more time I place the challenge. Name enough programs and departments of government along with dollar figures to cut federal spending 40% by Monday Morning. No one has taken the challenge so far. Enough with the generalized griping and moaning. Certain people write as if the have all the answers. Here is you opportunity to present YOUR dollar specific solutions. Are you up to it?

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Sat, Jan 14, 2012, at 6:52 AM
  • Roy:

in answer to your question. I don't know if we need to list dollars as much as define the problem.

What can we afford to keep? Each time someone makes a suggestion, three others fly in with a theory of their own. I am talking about Congress. They have created a vicious circle by aligning themselves with lobbyist and re-election concerns which keeps the strangle hold of greed upon all of us. Some are doing the strangling and others are getting squeezed in the middle.

If I can put it in 12 step terms. They haven't taken a personal inventory of themselves and tried to make amends to the people that they hurt the most. The very people who elected them to office.

If all of us refuse to see this as a spiritual battle, we will never know who are enemy really is. You cannot wage a battle holding only your good intentions, you must be armed with the truth of what you are really fighting for.

All things would be made very clear if all of us would take our own personal inventories. There have been times throughout civilization that there was no poor among us. How did they accomplish that? Well, for starters, everyone was humble and acknowledged God, they desired to do good. Let me repeat that: Desired to do good.

Have you seen anyone lately who desires to do good? Not all that many and for sure, not anyone who is in office today or in charge of businesses in the private sector.

I don't have the answers to the numbers crunch, that is not my thing. What I do know is that there are plenty of vultures waiting to swoop down and finish off the carcass of what was once a great nation. What made us great was no big mystery, it is God. What has destroyed us is the decay of greed and selfishness.

  • Well Mike. Absolutely no one, anywhere, seems to have anything even close to an answer, or so it seems. the last debt ceiling deal was 1.2 trillion in cuts over 10 years. Small change in the total scheme of things. Tax cuts that will pay for themselves over time have been proven to be the biggest con ever pulled off, anywhere! Everyone wants to cut spending, but no one wants their ox gored. BOTH SIDES!! This includes the Tea Party!

Cutting taxes based on some mythical projection of future revenue growth is just plain stupid! One only needs to be able to look at the past to see that a definite trend exist of upswings and downswings in the economy. It's called corrections. It happens with a certain amount of regularity.

The bottom line to all this is, spending must be scrutinized, lobbyist must be outlawed, Citizens United must be overturned, and a real and meaningful change to our system of primaries and general election system needs to be changed.

What has been called one of the most conservative Supreme Court in years, sold the Republic down the river. Who argued in favor of Citizens United? Those that are now effectively buying elections. I have yet to hear anyone from the right or hard right come out against this ruling.

Certain provisions of the Constitution were put in place for a reason. By that I mean amending the Constitution, and lifetime appointments of Federal judges. At one time in our history, the electoral collage made sense, but history has proven that it must be abolished, and replaced with the popular vote.

Abolishing the electoral college and overturning Citizens United will require Constitutional amendments.

Where stand you? Yea or nea?

    My vote is yea.

  • OMG!!! Bonnie, you get it!!!! The analogy to the 12 steps I understand, not to sure about others. While we may all different understandings of God, the one things in common is goodness.

    Thanks for your post!

  • You missed my point :) I'm sure God or Jesus doesn't want us to help out criminals in committing a crime, however I don't believe that when Jesus died on the cross it was for us to be Judgemental and pick and choose who should be saved and who should be ignored when it comes to living and living various lifestyles. I was taught that we are not the ones that Judge, we are to help our neighbor not spat on him...

When illegals came here, was that wrong in God's eyes ? Did God approve of the law we made for immigrants coming here? Does he approve of cutting the time on the wavier down so family's can once again join together?

I approve of what we are doing,I think its only fair that they get a chance to make it right by going back and following our law to re-enter the United States and bring family's back together.

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Sat, Jan 14, 2012, at 9:18 AM
  • No I didn't miss your point, I only added the last sentence. Being judgmental is not the same as breaking the law.

When you choose to break a law, you must expect consequences. When you are sorrowful for your transgression and want to do better, there is forgiveness.

All countries have laws concerning citizenship. Why should ours be changed for a token few?

Respecting the boundaries that have been set in place for civilization is not being judgmental. They have been put into place because someone realized cause and effect. If you have several people who are here illegally, they almost have a license to do whatever they want and when they want to. They are not subject to our laws, because when they got caught in the act of a crime, they are deported. If they get caught.

And that is the gamble that they take when they venture from their homes to be in America. Some of them might have good intentions and I have met them. Others do not and create havoc and distress for those who do belong here.

We help our neighbors when we can but on the same token, if they are doing something illegal in their own backyard, our lives are endangered too.

Quite frankly, if they had a nest of rattlesnakes in their yard and refused to do something and one of them bit one of your pets, would you gently tell them that they are being bad? Or would you call animal control to have the oversee the removal of something that is harmful to you and your family?

God wants us to have abundance, but He also wants us to obey. He desires that we have joy, but still chastises us when we transgress.

There is a limit that any one person can do to rectify this. We have to stand up against what is wrong and encourage those who desire to do good.

The point for this being, that men with evil designs want power and are using this issue of illegal aliens as a ways and means to achieve it. If we had enforced the immigration laws to begin with, this problem would not have become so big.

When everyone wants to do their own thing, we have chaos, particularly when we presume that God will wink at our transgressions.

  • People who are here in this country illegally and the families and friends that support that do so illegally. It is against the law to knowingly conceal a crime. Illegal is illegal. Attempting to bring "God" into this debate is pretty sad. If you want to use the church to hide behind illegal acts, there are soon to be a lot of rapists and murders on our streets (and other criminals). MsM, you will understand the problem when it directly impacts your life. Until then, continue to hide behind religion and the church. Illegals commit a good portion of the crimes in this country. We pay to house them and pay for their attorneys. Then...we pay to deport them. What a bunch of CRAP!!! Obama is a schmuck.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Sat, Jan 14, 2012, at 11:00 AM
  • The problem of illegals will not go away until it becomes too expensive for employers to hire them, but that will never happen. The problem has existed for decades, it's nothing new. It just happens to be a convenient whipping boy this election cycle. Lots and lots of talking points, no solutions offered as usual.

  • This is sort of off topic, but it is an eye opener when one is looking for some answers as to how we got into the mess we are in today. The foundation for the bailouts was laid some 6 years ago. Please read it, and take what is revealed as maybe some advice for the future.

You can say how sad for them.

What it comes down to, you want Obama to fix everything George W, never got around to fixing. And if he doesn't grant your wishes then he is a bad guy. HA!

He will get re-elected unless someone else jumps in that can beat him. The way the candidates are trashing each other looks like their the stupid ones.....

    Enjoy your day Chica!

  • THANKYOU ROY !!!!!!! HOW DOES A PERSON THAT DOESNT SPEAK OR UNDERSTAND ENGLISH GET TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR SYSTEM ???????? SIMPLE....they are tutored by the people that want them here......the employers.......they get cheap labor without any of responsibility.Go after the employeer. I have stated that reapedily.

WHAT the administration is trying to do is stem the tide of coninuos illigal crossings.Noble undertaking but I have no faith in it.I kinda keep track of what the border patrol is doing and they are doing it.To bad this is a political football, they derserve more credit there doing a good job considering were they have to do it.

YES the illegals broke the law but guess what so have the employers for aiding and abetting so lets lock some of them up too.The family's have become a punching bag in this mess and a solution to further continuence will require some hard choices and some tolerence for the human side.

-- Posted by lamont on Sat, Jan 14, 2012, at 12:17 PM
  • I think OM hit the nail right on the head. All the concern for the illegals. How about a little concern for the people who are hurt by the illegals?

-- Posted by skeeter on Sat, Jan 14, 2012, at 8:20 PM
  • skeeter, the businesses that employ the illegals don't give a rats butt about anyone or anything but themselves.

On a side note, this link is part of the reason for deficit spending out of control.

  • Roy: I do know both the owners of businesses, and their illegal employess. The owners do care about their employees. You are wrong.

On a side note, too much spending causes debt and I don't have to reference another source to figure that out.

Our government and their greed lead to a lot of our problems.

-- Posted by skeeter on Sun, Jan 15, 2012, at 7:26 AM
  • skeeter, which employees, the legal ones or the illegal ones. With the number of unemployed, why hire illegals? The law is the law. If an employer can't make a profit or exist without breaking the law and hiring illegals, why should citizens pay the price of not having a job?

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Sun, Jan 15, 2012, at 8:28 AM
  • Zook if we want to make it right we need to start with the employers who employ the illegals. I wonder how many are employed right here in our own back yard. Maybe that would be a deterrent to keep them from coming for jobs. Your Hero's could of fixed this a long time ago, but they looked the other way.

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Sun, Jan 15, 2012, at 10:14 AM

Business needs to stop the jobs!

  • THANKYOU FOLKS I HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT FOR A YEAR...........ZOOK YOU NEED TO READ WHAT THE APPLICATION FOR WAIVER IS ALL ABOUT BEFORE YOU JUMP....IT IS NOT A TOTAL SOLUTION..................

HOW ABOUT THIS GO BACK AND READ THE PATH that president bush had us on and then come back and tell us we would have been ok if we left it alone......and bear in mind Who started the bailout business, who did nothing about illegals, who raised the dept ceiling more times than anyone else, who lied us to war at the expense of 4500 dead and 450000 wounded and counting as more and more sick come forward Who sent our people with less than equipment and then drug there feet to get the stuff they should have had,a defense sec that was more intrested in his legacy than the troops....in other words there is a enough blame to go around. I for one am getting tired of being called a trained seal or some othere derogatory remark because I am not ultra right wing or a republican. What makes you people think that going back to........the way it was is what is best for this country, all that does is keep the robber barons in power and based on the figures you and me poorer, tell me how that works?.Everything is going up but wages and it didnt just start under THIS president. You want to rant, rant, but do it fairly and include your republican ideas that have served no purpose other than to make you feel good and degrade others......back to what?????????? THE STUFF FROM BACK THERE IS WHAT HAS GOTTEN US HERE.....SOMEBODY PRINTED THE FARM SUBSIDIES FOR THE SURROUNDING COUNTY'S IN THE STATESMEAN DID YOU READ IT???????? THOSE ARNT DEMS THAT OWN THOSE FARMS AND ARE TAKING GOVERNMENT MONEY ,TEACHING ILLEGALS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM AND THEN STANDING UP TWO FACED AND TALKING ABOUT THE ILLEGALS.LETS GET IT STRAIGHT...JUST LIKE NEWT AND SANTORUMS COMMENTS....OUT IN LEFT FIELD AND THE RIGHT SAYS ...OH ISNT THAT THE TRUTH.... WHEN IT IS A BALD FACE LIE.wHEN IS THE RIGHT GOING TO OWN UP TO 60% OF THE WELFARE RECIPIENTS ARE WHITE, WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO OWN UP THERE ATTEMPT TO DISENFRACHISE VOTERS .....THERE IS NO VOTER FRAUD.VOTER FRAUD ON ANY SCALE WOULD REQUIRE A CONSPIRACY OF SOME SORT.IT will backfire there are a lot of poor white folks living in rural america that wont get to vote.....for a right wing candidate you can bet on it.You folks think that the only ones living in those areas are people of colour well your WRONG.

You know you make comments like all muslims arn't terrorist but all terrorist are muslims.I could change some words there and whole it to be true........such as... all right wingers aren't bigots but all bigots are right wing...I bet you dont like that.People take pride in ....im NOT POLITECALLY CORRECT.......FOR SOME THAT IS A CODE FOR I'LL USE THE N WORD WHEN I WANT, I'LL CALL PEOPLE PEDRO IN REFERNCE TO HISPANICS ,I'LL CALL JEWS KIKES ETC ETC ETC AND THEN YOU WANT US TO LISTEN SORRY I CANT.......WHEN the right takes ownership for it's garbage I will listen, you are not innocent and contributed greatly to the problems the country has.....so stand up and be adults and take ownership for your part in this mess.......YES IT'S SUNDAY AND I HATE TO GET ANGRY ON SUNDAY.......BUT IT GETS OLD.

  • SKEETER......... THERE IS PROBALLY SOME VERY REAL POINTS THERE......HOWEVER THAT WAS A VERY SLICKLY PUT TOGETHER PROPOGANDA OP ED....IF THEY HAD STUCK TO THE FACTS WITHOUT THE INUENDOS AND INTERPRETATIONS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE.I DONT NEED SOMEONE TO INTERPRET WHAT THEY WANT TO TELL ME,SO THEY CAN TELL ME........THAT'S PROPOGANDA IN MY OPINION.

ILLEGALS HIRING ILLEGALS I DONT KNOW. DO YOU??

I WOULD THINK THAT SOMEONE IN AND OWNERSHIP POSITON WOULD PROBALLY HAVE AT least a GREEN CARD AND I AM NOT SURE THAT WOULD ALLOW BUSINESS OWNERSHIP.I am sure it takes place. But I would bet that is a small minority.

Lamont: I have no clue why you think NO Voter Fraud is going on in this country, it is and has been, the changing of the laws to attempt to try and stop some of it. Wanting a photo ID be shown to vote is just one way. Taking all the elections out of the control of people that wants Bonds like here voting done at the schools for thier's For the City voting done at the library, Bonds for the hospital being done at the Hospital. Now that is all over and the election office here is in charge of all elections, no matter what they are for.

There was an interview on the news of the S.C. AG and he stated that in a prior election 900 people voted that were DEAD, Thousands more had moved out of the State and registered in another State and had voted in S.C. Same thing has been going on in Ind. thats the reasons for the law changes on voting. S.C. has an on going investigion over voter fraud right now.

How long are people going to keep blaming Bush, he's not the President anymore, Obama is and he is the one that stated before coming President if we had leadership in D.C. we would need all the debt celing increases but Obama has been getting them and now wants another l.2 Trillion, shows not much leadership there either.

Blame Bush for the down turn on everything, but look back when things started going down the Dem's were in control of the Senate and the House. There hasn't been a budget passed for 3 years and the Dem's were in complete control for 2 years of that. Now Obama want the Congess to give him more power so he can fix everything and that was taken away from Regan in 1984 for good reason.

Your words Lamont " I'LL USE THE N WORD WHEN I WANT, I'LL CALL PEOPLE PEDRO IN REFERNCE TO HISPANICS ,I'LL CALL JEWS KIKES ETC ETC ETC AND THEN YOU WANT US TO LISTEN SORRY I CANT", sure looks like your insults and name calling you put in print.

As far as the poor not being able to vote, why not?, ever heard of an absent ballot that is mailed to the voter and mailed back to the election office which will be verified that they can vote. Case you haven't checked you are required to show a photo ID in Idaho to vote.

I would bet on that Video being all proganda and there is another one on there that is also very good titled WE THE People.

Another thing I don't like the terms African American, Asisan American, Mexican American, if you we born in this Country you are an American nothing else. What about the people that came here from Europe to started this country we don't have a title added to us and shouldn't have.

    -- Posted by Eagle_eye on Sun, Jan 15, 2012, at 4:46 PM
  • I think I will wait for the supreme courts decision on obamacare instead of believing that video someone put together and who doesn't know how to spell!

Skeeter I don't understand what your trying to say about illegals, can you be a little more clearer?

Were not blaming Bush were only stating facts, how things were handed over to Obama that Bush didn't finish up on or didn't try to fix. Then we have the Repubs in congress who made a pact not to approve anything Obama tries to pass. If any of you didn't know about the pact you must have your head in the sand...

    Go Packers!

This is the article from the left news media trying to state what Obama wanted to his request for more power.

    http://news.yahoo.com/r-p-department-commerce-president-obama-seeks-consolidate-...

ABC reported Announcing this morning that he is seeking authority to streamline the executive branch, President Obama said he needs the same kind of "authority that every business owner has to make sure that his or her company keeps pace with the times. And let me be clear: I will only use this authority for reforms that result in more efficiency, better service, and a leaner government."

What he said was if Congress gives him this power the Government would be leaner and smarter and then went on to say the Government would be more transparent, (Now where have I heard that before) and that I promise not to violate that authority (again where did I heard promises before)

According to the report, Obama said nothing about the 25,000 people that he has added to the payroll and I see no job cuts here either.

Then turns around and add the Small Business Admin to a Cabinet position, another power move he wants.

He also stated that the current Government has the smartest and most knowledgeable people that could be working in his Admin. Yea right.

  • Eagle_eye,

I would have to respectfully disagree with you on one point. "What about the people that came here from Europe to started this country we don't have a title added to us and shouldn't have."

The appellation "american" has been routinely applied to those from Europe. The terms Polish-American, German-American, Italian-American...etc were in use long before the terms you mentioned.

Amuzeme: You are 100 percent correct and I had forgot that but you never see those tiles used anymore or at least I don't but the ones I mentioned are used daily.

MsM I don't have a clue what the Supreme Court may do over Obamacare and neither does anyone else. The only point is hurry up and pass over a 2000 page bill so they can read it and know whats in it. You would think they would have read the bill before passing it and the things added to it that had nothing to do with health care.

I said there is no voter fraud......0001% nationally is not considered significant in any circle especially over a 50 yr period.THE ATTEMPT TO DISENFRACISE INCLUDES CUTTING ABSENTEE VOTING THE WHERE WHEN AND THE HOW.DONT TRY TO PATRONIZE ME...... WITH IN CASE YOU HAVENT CHECKED .....I AM A REGULAR VOTER.If S.C. or anywhere else had 900 dead people vote and that was caught then some people are doing there job and some people are not.So the system works why are you fixing it????? What is the population of S.C.???

Your not incharge of anything with the ability to filibuster everything that comes up.....the man cant even fill his department heads therefore negating the department being able to do there job. That is sabotage plain and simple.

  • Why is it Obamacare? He didn't write that fouled up piece of manure. Pelosi, Reid et al wrote that mess.

Obama had a desire to provide affordable health care for all Americans. Those idiots in the House and Senate fouled things up with their desire to engage in some political bloodletting.

The bill moved too fast and nobody read it. Now we have to try and fix it.

That bill is a prime example of political bloodletting. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • Eagle_eye ,

Ever since this administration took over, there has been the constant cry that "Government is too big". This administration HAS grown some aspects of government, there is no debate there.

Now, acceding to all the cries of shrinking government and eliminating redundant agencies, there is a proposal on the table. A proposal that was first outlined in the Presidents Jan 11 State of the Union Address... A proposal that NO ONE has even read, and it's already being decried as a power grab? I don't get it.

Rick Perry called for the elimination of the Commerce, Energy, and Education departments and not a peep was heard against it. President Obama puts a proposal on the table to eliminate the Commerce department and consolidate 6 others and it's a power grab?

The President is asking for the same powers that expired under the Reagan administration. He is not asking for the ability to arbritrarily eliminate any department. This new authority would allow Congress to vote up or down the entire package of consolidations within 90 days.

There will be job cuts. The proposed new agency would be smaller than the sum of its previous parts by up to two thousand employees (which will be lost through attrition, the White House says), and saving $3 billion over the next decade.

The Small Business Administration is NOT being made a cabinet level agency. As a matter of fact, this proposed agency would incorporate the SBA into itself. The president is as of today elevating SBA administrator Karen Mills to a cabinet-level position to head this new agency on a temporary basis until Congress deals with this proposal.

Each aspect of this proposal is being run through Congress, how is that a power grab?

As far as the prefixes to American try to remember that the minority's didnt create them !!!!!!!!!!!!HELLO !!!!!!!! YOU dont like them dont use them.

-- Posted by lamont on Sun, Jan 15, 2012, at 7:27 PM
  • MsMarylyn: You said go Packers and now they are gone.

My point about illegals is that they too own businesses and they also hire illegals, often only illegals. Look at sub-contracting in construction. You asked if illegals are employed in the local area and of course they are.

Some illegals have had their jobs for many years and when they occupy that job as an illegal it never comes available to a citizen. I read yesterday it costs about 113 billion in taxes to support illegals a year but it is probbaly much higher.

-- Posted by skeeter on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 6:52 AM
  • The reason illegals are working is the free market and pure capitalism. Legal workers wont work for substandard wages. The only way to maximize profits on jobs that can't be shipped offshore is to hire illegals and pay substandard wages.

If the figures are correct as to 12 to 20 million illegals are in this country, and assuming 50% are of working age, then that means 6 to 10 million legal workers are possibly unemployed due to illegals.

There will never be serious dents made in the number of illegals as long as maximum profits are the driving force in business. Just look to Tyson and Hormel, and their use of illegals.

My point of view isn't to promote Socialism, I'm promoting putting the American worker FIRST!

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 7:28 AM
  • Mike, have you noticed that no President has ever tried to do anything about the illegals, except to try and get them legal? This goes back to Reagan's amnesty. He who get's them legal, gets the votes. That is pure history. Even those who talk tough on the subject have historically failed to deliver. Ever wonder why? Like when Clinton said to Bush, It's about the economy stupid, it's about the votes.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 8:15 AM
  • Skeeter yup those packers aren't going to the super bowl......I think they were off their game, to many fumbles

Anyways getting back to illegals are you counting those paid under the table in construction? Here's another question for you skeeter how do illegal business owners open a business, don't they need a business license?

Zook we need to start going after the employers who hire the illegals and then punish them? That would be the first place to find illegals. Maybe if we did that we wouldn't have to worry so much about the borders, no reason for them to come here, no jobs!!

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 8:51 AM
  • They take cash under the table. That is the way it has always been done MsM.

I would think that your first clue about hiring illegals is that they don't speak or understand English and they produce a fake ID Card and supply a fake SSN.

If they are here legally and have valid ID's, it is easy enough to confirm.

The real problem here starts at the top. All of these issues have been politicized for many many years. And by several presidents of both parties and by several congressmen of both parties.

When we can clean house from the top down, you will find that most of these problems will cease to become election issues.

In a better world, everyone would desire to do the right thing, always.

As an individual, I must demand honor and integrity from myself and those who are in office.

And we must demand honor and integrity from those who report the news, or comment on it. both sides. always.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 9:05 AM
  • You speak the truth Bonnie.

I wonder what it say's about America and American media, when the news of the day is who wore what at some stupid awards ceremony. There are real problems that need too be addressed.

As far as I know, anybody can get a business license. Legal or illegal. And even if you need to be legal, all you have to do is get the license in the name of a friend or relative who is legal.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 9:14 AM
  • So if we need to start at the top down then why is there so much focused on the illegals and not the business owners who hire them? Why so much focus on tightening the borders when we need to tighten up on the employers who hire them first?

Integrity yes I like that word and I will always live by that. I believe your only as good as your word!

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 9:23 AM

I HAVE SAID THAT WAS DEVISIVE FROM MY TEACHING DAYS.Ill say it again IF you are more than 1st generation born here you are and american by race period that is my feeling and opinion and whatever.(smile)like I said dont like the hypenes dont use them. That would go a ways to changing things.

EAGLE EYE are you haveing a hard time admiting a mistake ?????? I admit mine and so does everyone else so lets join the blog club.

KH GAL what you say has a lot of truth to it.Please consider this, as a person who owned and operated an establishment that required ID I can tell you that knowing and figuring out WHICH one is false is not and easy job.Not being fluent in english is and indicator only not proof.Drivers license mean nothing for all practical purposes.Social security cards mean even less,And no one provides training to be able to identify what is false and what is not. The employer is left holding the bag.Now I know your going to say who's side is he on i say that it is the governments responsibilty to provide the resources to identify who is illegal to include what is false id and how to check it.I say the government has the responsibility to do everything it can within reason to secure and administer the borders(north and south)I SAY THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN STOP PAYING SUBSIDIES TO ANY FARM OR OTHER BUSINESS CAUGHT USING ILLEGALS,IF THAT BUSINESS IS EGIBLE FOR THOSE SUBSIDIES.LAST IF YOU ARE NOT BORN HERE AND DONT HAVE PAPER WORK THAT SHOWS YOU HAVE A LEGAL STANDING HERE YOU GO HOME PERIOD.The children can be repatriated as adults if you decide to take them with you.Does it break up families it might, does it deport citizens yes. We hold parents responsible for children until a certain age why would it not apply in this case.

Now these are suggestions and I am not saying they are perfect solutions but we need to start somwhere I think everyone here knows I am a people person so dont get the wrong idea,I pose this as food for thought please add or subtract as you see fit.

THE polotics of this crosses party lines folks so look at it that way.BOTH PARTY'S ARE EQUALLY GUILTY.

  • As someone who has been on the front-line for job applicants, I can tell you a few things. We had a time where SSN were being used that didn't belong to someone. They may have gone on to other employment, but the actual owner of the number got a big surprise come tax time.

Also, we had several applicants who came from "non" profit organizations and had forged green cards and ssn."

I am sure that they had them long before the signed up with the non-profit.

As long as people are not willing to do the right thing, we will have these issues.

I am not so sure that I protest them coming and getting a job, but I do think that we should not be responsible for their medical care or other living expenses. Especially if they do not pay taxes.

Nor should they be allowed to vote in any election.

The Govt is pretty prompt now on notifying you if a SSN is false after someone has been hired. It didn't use to be that way. We had someone come in 3 times with false numbers after we hired them. Of course, he was let go.

  • Did the change come while Obama has been in office?

I heard today on the news that Obama had tried to get the super packs to take it down a notch but the Republicans won't go along with it, because they have to many rich supports that support and donate to the super packs

Hopefully when the election is over something can be done about that. Not much will get done this year but hey that's the way it's been, thanks to the Republicans and the tea party. The tea party wouldn't even work with John Boehner.

Lamont: NO I didn't go back and read it again. I admitted the mistake I made to Amuzeme on the prefixes to Americans.

On the other points I saw the Presidents speech and what ABC news wrote and so stated that they couldn't even get it right.

As far as the Government being leaner and smarter due to what he wants to combine. That could be a good thing if he really does it, Government has got to BIG and Obama has increased it size by 25,000, to cut maybe 2 thousand not going to put much of a dent in what he has added to the payroll

No I was not checking their education or credentials, party has nothing to do with it. When Obama got into office look how many didn't get a job because they couldn't even be bothered to file their tax returns and some still got hired. You don't always correct your mistakes either.

Lamont one of your last comments you told KHgal you had suggestions and things have to start someplace. Same applies to voting, the changing in laws across the country are doing that also and try to be sure you have the right to vote. Instead of Holder sueing the States over requiring a photo ID, tighten up the laws and be sure there isn't voter fraud.

On to another Commentary I read today that should ring a bell someplace.

I forgot those same type crooks Obama wanted to hire and the same type we still have in the Senate and the House and the American public put them there and won't vote them. Gotta stay with that party line no matter how crooked they are. A House cleaning needs to be done in Nov. and terms limits need to come about for the career people in D.C. but not going to happen.

THE POOR IN RURAL AMERICA THAT IS WHO AND THEY SHOULD NOT PAY A PENALTY FOR BEING POOR.$20.00 SOMETIMES IS THE DIFFERENCE WETHER PEOPLE EAT FOR 3-4 DAYS...IF that is not happening to you ,you cant visualize it......You know i could take you placese in this country today that there is no running water or electricity and this is 2012.We need to think about that.AND that is not a color thing it is a poor thing.

Over the last hundred years alot of things have changed and not all for the good. We live in an age things are changing daily. Sure I don't need to remind you that at one time Blacks and Women couldn't vote, but they can now due to changes.

I am aware that there are people in this Country that don't have running water or electricty, I have seen that right here in Mtn Home. Also there are people that never had a birth cert. but in this day and age its a must.

Same thing with a SSN when we were young we got one to work, now days babies have to get one right after birth. The SSN wasn't set up for what it used for today. Once it was used to pay into social security until time to start to draw it. Now days you need a SSN for everything from a Loan, Mortgage, Checking and the list goes on how we are tracked by a SSN.

I believe from your comment on a different blog you found out the hard way just how hard it is to get a Birth Cert. not fun

Sure you drawing SS and probably when you found out the SS office wanted to see the Birth Cert. and your DD 214 before they would approve Social Security Benefits. Anybody that doesn't know where theirs is or if they ever had one needs to get whatever help it takes to get one. There has to be someone in Government that should be able to help, if not then turn to the people they elected to get their help and not be listening to excuses why they can't help.

Some in the office that need to help just don't care and they need to care or find themselves in the soup line. I also think the photo ID should be free to those that can't afford to pay and I not talking about the couch potato either. Money to some is all they have to live on and doesn't buy any extra's. The bums on the system sitting on their butts waiting on a hand out can go set on the curb. If they are able to work, their are jobs out there may not be the pay they want or they may not like the manual labor to gain that money but the taxpayers don't owe you a living to set on your butt and do nothing.

I didn't anything about color or just who is poor, some create that, some just can't make it in today's world, but like the Commentary I posted, when do we quit giving to the rest of the world and people in this country go without because our Government thinks we should take care of everyone else before our own people.

Whether we help the illegal or not, they will still be judged by Him come their time. BUT Illegal is illegal. And I agree, we should not aid and abet. That include employer giving employment to illegal. Too bad so many U.S. residents don't want to do the ame work for the same pay. That' another issue.

We do have laws in place.... they should be abided by. It aggravates me that we have such poverty and need here, and we wind up giving money out of country, or to illegals in our own country. It's just a sorry ridiculous state of affairs. OMHO.

    Jessie

-- Posted by jessiemiller on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 9:30 PM
  • Jessie, the reason Americans wont work for what the illegals work for is that after the employer pays things like workman's comp ins. unemployment ins. their share of Social Security and Medicare taxes, they would only be willing to pay the worker about $5.00 an hr. Oh, I forgot, hiring legal workers means having to pay overtime. The American economy has become dependent on cheap illegal labor.

Tell me, would you work a 16 hr. day for less than $100.00?

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Mon, Jan 16, 2012, at 10:26 PM
  • *

Roy, I understand that the pay would have to be slaughtered by taxes and other "legal" issues. I wasn't trying to be disdainful about that.

BUT I do know lots of people that feel it's below them to work what they consider "menial" jobs. I know that when I am/have been broke enough, nothing was menial to be 'below' me.

And yes Roy, I would work a 16 hour day for less than a $100. Actually, all summer long I do just that. I happen to love it, and I have the photos to document it, but yep, I do it. (I guess I have to confess it's not every day, but lots of them)

My disdain comes from looking at lazy people, with all kinds of excuses why they won't do it.

If you take 2 people, equally legally able to work an identical job, why does one walk away? He/She has all kinds of excuses why he/she can't/won't/shouldn't do it. THAT is where my disdain lies.

I realize I went off on a tangent, I apologize.

I tend to not worry so much about what people are doing here, as long as it doesn't affect (mostly) my children, grandchildren, etc. Cross that line, and I'll be there judging and whatever else needs done. In other words, I'd be comfortable being Judge & Jury.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Tue, Jan 17, 2012, at 6:35 PM
  • I have one last comment to make on this subject. Joe, you made a comment about 25,000 jobs being added. That really isn't what the following deals with.

You want to really make a dent in illegals being employed and reduce the unemployment rate big time?

The answer is so very simple. Hire 25,000 additional agents for I.C.E. They will then have the manpower to enforce the laws on the books about hiring illegals. And while your at it, make it MANDATORY that every employer or contractor uses E-VERIFY!

Just be ready for the impact to your wallet.

  • Hiring an illegal is ILLEGAL! Until out Government starts punishing this crime, it will continue. Hiring an illegal is... ILLEGAL. Period. Perhaps if our Government was smart (which it is not) they would start taking these businesses and selling them off to people (at a public auction...since we foot the bill anyway) and work on tax CUTS to people who employ LEGAL AMERICANS!!!!!!

God has nothing to do with this debate and bringing God into this is stupid. Bringing God and abortion into political BS is stupid as well. 3/4 of what they tell us are lies anyway and NOT AT ALL what they really feel/believe anyway.

Illegals commit a lot of the crime (other than being here illegally). They take up rooms in jails, abuse the welfare system, collect SSI, etc. Until we fix that problem and cut off the tax cuts to the businesses who employ these people (the illegals)---we are going to be in bad shape. Kick the darn illegals out and get people back to work! With the way things are now, MOST people would be happy to have a job. Something is better than nothing. And the lazy ones who do not work can have their welfare payments cut off. This nation breeds and encourages LAZY. Welfare needs to have a time limit. Generations and generations of welfare is a bunch of bull. Being paid to breed more lazy people needs to come to an end. Keeping people on welfare who are on drugs needs to end! People on welfare should have to get jobs---regardless of what they pay is.

I work for less than I did 5 years ago. I do a lot of things that I would prefer not to do but in this economy I AM JUST GLAD TO HAVE A JOB! Nothing that pays, and is legal (I would not do well in jail---I have problems with "authority") is beneath me if I can make my mortgage payment, eat and have power. I work way more hours than I did 5 years ago for less money (and have to travel farther). But it is a job.

People need to start "fixing" things for themselves. Stop waiting for the Government to save you. The Government wants us all unemployed and on public assistance---and under their thumb. Get your birth certificates and picture ID's and guard them with your life. We are in for a rough ride and you can expect it to get far worse before it gets better. Now, let me bring God into this. God help us if we keep electing schmucks and crooks into office. This is our fault.

Sometimes when you are walking the trail, you forget about the rattlesnakes who might cross your path. My bad, whatever I write about is my own personal beliefs, I don't ever presume that everyone will have the same message as do. But I do have the right to express it.

  • I am fairly sure that God would expect that people would respect the laws and regulation(s) in place. God would want all people to be the best they can be and live within the laws of that nation---

My comment was not to KH Gal, it was to MsM because under her theory of life (as she stated), criminals should all be allowed free passes as we are supposed to forgive (it is what God and/or Jesus would want). KH Gal is respectful and has always been/added an interesting point of view. Opinions are like...everyone has one and has the right to voice it. We may not always agree on here but there is always food for thought (good or bad)on these blogs if you think about what is being stated and will entertain other opinions.

I respect MsM, but we differ in opinions. I am younger than MsM and as such have a generational disadvantage with her at times. It is all good. Opinions that differ make this world go round. If we all agreed all of the time life would be pretty darn boring.

Good night MsM. I hope you are well and that business for you is booming "Chica." Be well everyone.

  • 25000 American citizens willing to work for much less than 40k creating more tax paying jobs for other Americans. Sounds like a no brainer. The governments job is to protect the citizens, not the employers who hire illegals! It's all about the jobs! Is that clear enough??? God forbid companies having to follow the law. 1st offence, 25k per illegal, 2nd offence 50k and loss of the business.

American workers are sick and tired of being shafted!! DO YOU GET IT???????

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Tue, Jan 17, 2012, at 9:53 PM
  • And not a single word about sanctions for companies that employ illegals. Very very telling.

How about it other bloggers, does business get a pass on this one?

    One final note.

WAYNE, STOP IT!!!! YOU ADD NOTHING WITH THESE ANTICS.

  • It would be easy to secure the borders. We are securing everybodies but ours. Bring our troops home. Dems want the votes, dems and reps want the workers. It will never be fixed.

  • Buckshot, the reason I brought up the employer issue is because you fail to mention it unless it's brought to your attention. BTW, I was the one that brought up the fines, not you, since it seems your always will to give the private sector a pass.

Kill the jobs and the benefits and the problem will solve itself. There will always be some illegals, but with no jobs or benefits available, it will be a very small number.

One last thing, your statement about how much money in wages new ICE employees would make is insulting to anyone with any intelligence. And your statement about them being corrupt is beyond ignorant. You want to see corruption, look no further and our elected officials and the companies that buy them.

As far as I'm concerned, at the moment, the private sector is a major part of the problem. They are the one hiring illegals to the detriment of American citizens!!!!

  • WE HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE,EVERYBODY HAS A POINT AND THE MAIN SOLUTIONS HAVE BEEN STATED.

TWO THINGS.....NEITHER party wants to solve this so stop the finger pointing and the border patrol and local enforcment are doing there job,. and that is well documented.WHEN WE TALK OF OTHER COUNTRIES BORDERS THERE IS ONE THING LACKING IN OUR ENFORCEMENT .....AND I AM NOT ADVOCATING THIS AT ALL....THEY WILL KILL YOU.AND THE COUNTRIES THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ARE NOT THE KINDA COUNTRIES WE CONSIDER FRIENDS.

Beef cows sold on open market have serial numbers illegals dont.Illegals cant vote WHEN IS THAT RIGHT WING MYTH GOING AWAY.

-- Posted by lamont on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 12:38 PM
  • HEY BUCKSHOT.....I MEANT TO ASK..... DO YOU BELIEVE THE PRIVATE SECTOR WILL POLICE IT SELF TO INCLUDE LABOR LAW, SAFETY,DISCRIMINATION BASED ON RELIGION,COLOR,NATIONAL ORIGIN, SEX AND AGE ??? OR THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO PLACE IN THAT.JUST WONDERING........

-- Posted by lamont on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 12:55 PM
  • CJW, I'm not placing all the blame on businesses, but I'll be darned if they get a free pass from me for hiring illegals with so many Americans unemployed. God forbid those companies may even have to employ returning vets to fill the vacancies. But it's only going to happen if those companies get hammered HARD!

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 1:57 PM
  • Everyone could look at the ones who bring them over here. They are the most deplorable human beings.

They make the real money, but take a look at the property desctruction that several hundred people crosssing the border illegally creates. Tons of garbage, fences cut down, sometimes cattle are stolen for food. And that is the ones who come here wanting to work. The others cross the border to settle gang scores or commit other crimes.

I think I am done looking at this blog and commenting on it.

Been thinking about my own writing obligations.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 2:55 PM
  • How about we take away bennies for the illegals? The government has about as many agencies giving them bennies as I have agencies taking from me. A lot of illegals are not coming here to get a job and if government is always the answer why hasn't it stopped illegals? I'm sure citizens would stop it if they could but the government will not.

And like KH Gal I'm done.

  • I hope you realize that its not just Mexicans coming from Mexico.

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 5:03 PM
  • And just what is your solution Buckshot? At least my solution has the potential to take 6 million workers off unemployment and make taxpayers out of them.

There is no free solution. Come on, you seem to have all the answers. Let's hear them.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 5:27 PM
  • Well Buckshot61/Homerlookalike

I figured you might need to know after reading your statement that there were others that weren't Mexicans coming up from Mexico

    Your words below

" I vehemently disagree, as I have been to Mexico and fully realize it's far better to be a poor man in the U.S.A. than it is in Mexico. They'd STILL keep a coming, and politicians that YOU support would STILL keep giving them money. So, please, talk about insulting someone's intelligence..."

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 5:44 PM
  • Oh Buckshot61/Homerlookalike

You show me the numbers, I don't want to do your work for you...

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 5:46 PM
  • BUCKSHOT......nobody here talked about corruption,that is a subject all it's own.

MY problem with government is administrators .The beaurocrates become entrenched and then they become ineffective, because they dont want to make anybody mad and loose there job.So they walk the fence of do only what you have too.If a lot of these jobe were not political appointees we might just get people who really will do the job.But we are busy paying political depts. Not THEY WAY TO GET IT DONE.

CJW.....NO I DID NOT SEE THAT,BUT NO SURPRISE I have been against prison privatization and all the out sourcing in the legal system.IT is a system that will enslave systematically. And the system will be used to perpetuate that same corrupt system.JUDGES,administrators, guards, prosecutors you name it......but most of us never come in contact with the criminal justice system so we ignore and we say They DESERVE IT. I once told a student who wanted to write on something controversal to write on.....CRIME PAYS...They did got and A. IF you look at the whole thing it will make you sick.....i agree with you ..........

BORDER PATROL administrator who put that word out should be fired and jailed !!!!!!!! kinda like giving and illegal order. If I gave one that is what would have happened to me..... I would have thought if it wasnt in writting then it shouldnt be done........again scared of there jobs, wholesale blackmail. MONEY corrupts everything one way or another........have a great day

What didn't you understand?? I only reposted your post so you could see what I was talking about and if your referring to something else you posted farther up, I most likely didn't see it as I don't read everything you post..... Your writings don't impress me as much as you probably wish they would.

Off topic Hows your wife doing, I hope she is getting along good?

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Jan 18, 2012, at 6:16 PM
  • Buckshot, what I said was that the additional ICE agents would enforce the law in regards to the private sector and that in turn would force them to hire legal workers, workers who are on unemployment. That makes them taxpayers. How hard is that to understand? Once again, I asked you for your solutions and you offer none! Just the same old rhetoric, and it's getting old. Either offer solutions or get out of the way of those of us who at least have a possible solution. Your precious private sector will fight enforcement to their last breath to keep their cheap and illegal labor force.

  • I have to wait till I get home, the speakers on the laptop not so good.

My newest blog really shows some of the sickness here and everywhere.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Thu, Jan 19, 2012, at 7:38 AM
  • Once again Buckshot, more rhetoric, no solutions. Mike offers a solution. I may not completely agree, but at least it's a solution. I offer a solution, Mike not completely agree, but it's a solution. The "us" are the ones who do more than spout the same old rhetoric. Oh well, you are simply proving that you seem to lack any original ideas.
