  • When you get done with cap pistols, you can start in on Red Ryder BB rifles. I chuckle when I see these BB guns in Walmart, confident that even the parents buying them don't know who Red Ryder was. (Little Beaver was his sidekick) In the movie, "You'll shoot your eye out--" was the best advertisement for the Red Ryder guns.

  • My brothers are Angels on my shoulder but this story brings back very fond memories.......... Makes me hear the little pop pop in my ear and that tell tell odor from the caps... Had not thought of those in a very long time but they are great memories. Thanks Mike and Merry Christmas to you and Donna.

    Ditto for me.

But you left out water pistols.

My 3 year old grandson and I just had a stand off because I took the plug out of the back of his. He wasn't buying off that I took it out so he could reload it more easily. He loads it with air because grandpa told him a couple of days ago it was too cold outside for water.

The standoff came to an end when he put it to his mouth and blew into it, thereby reloading it.

He is now using it (minus a trigger guard AND THE PLUG) to guard his mom and grandma.

My grandson was given one last year for Christmas. His Dad took it away BEFORE he noticed it.

As for the old American-made jobs, they probably are still in backroads junkpiles and barns. But there were so many of them, they aren't "worth" doing anything with.

When we moved from MH in 67, I hauled seven or eight 6 x 10 trailer loads of "junk" to the dump that could now payfor most anything I ever will need. Oh, to have 10/100 foresight!!!

    Happy trails.

  • I seen those dart guns before.. They aren't antiques yet.......... I had one just a couple years ago.

I liked those old cap guns. I used to buy them for my boys at Kings and I remember one time buying a cap gun you could only put one cap in at a time. Lol! That took some time to get through a roll of caps...

Yea I had one of those dart guns as a kid but didn't get to keep it long LOL. Had more than one cap gun or water pistol, none of them made it to many years, so much use I guess LOL.

  • Yes, yes, yes!!! Completely loved reading this article and the pictures of cap guns and holsters.

Did you prefer the rolled caps or ringed ones when you were a kid?

  • This is possibly one of the best blogs I have read.

I grew up with Popeye,Lone Ranger, and Sky King.

I've had a tin two barrel,a lone ranger sixgun, and a pirate gun much like your photos. you could get roll caps for the tinny and six gun, and you could get the round 'sticky' caps for the pirate guns for about $.10 for 50. Had a daisy bb gun,and a commando cody rocket belt. My favorite was the erector set. If you were bad in school, you got the paddle, and if you brought a gun (real) to school, you had to leave it at the office. My how the world has changed. I'll be reminiscing all night.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS,and thanks.
