  • Nice looking handguns Mike, wish I could own one.

  • Ah, but for people like me, having a gun is like giving a child a stick of dynamite and a book of matches. 1 crisis, 1 drink, instant tragic outcome. At least I realize that. See I like guns, I've hunted, done trap shooting, but just isn't safe for anyone for me to own a gun.

Good blog. I don't know what else you could do, to show that it's not the gun's fault.

But also, I appreciate Roy knowing the danger that is possible in the 'wrong' hands. Whether it be due to criminal behavior or otherwise. Another good point, and thanks Roy

  • Good blog. We all know of tragedies with accidental shootings or murders. Responsible Gun use is no different than expecting a chef to know how to utilize their kitchen equipment or a truck driver to operate his truck safely.

Years ago, several friends and I went to Bliss Dam to try the fishing. It was early in March and we had some issues with an overnight wind. After we gave up fishing the next day, we stopped on the canyon rim and fired my mom's old Winchester shooting galery pump. The last guy to fire it put it back in the truck. He was former Army, long time NRA, well just safe. A week later, I got a call from my mother telling me my seven year old daughter had called her and she was at home, crying and hiding in the upstairs bedroom. When I calmed Brandi down, I found a hole in the wall and when I turned the chair she had been sitting in upside down, I found the bullet. A 55 grain .22.

    Two points here.

As long as that snubnose is loaded and without a trigger lock, it is a potential disaster. As long as I can, I will educate my only grandson in how to handle the 1873 Colt 45 that he will inherit in due time. I still don't have any idea what made that pump fall over in the closet, fire through drywall, 2 2 x 4s, wood paneling, sheet metal, a chair and still bury itself in hardwood. Doesn't matter, because it didn't kill anybody either.

Second, the incident I described was my fault because I should have known that my friend never unloaded a weapon except to clean it. I had been taught to make sure the chamber was empty before storing the weapon. Both are true. Niether was patently wrong.

  • What worry's me is not responsible gun owners but those that are out there who shouldn't have a gun in their hands EVER. I'm talking about the mental ones that have no record and have never been treated for mental illness until they become crazy and become serial killers all in a few minutes.

Look what happened in Arizona. Things like that happening are becoming more and more.

NOTE to Mr .49485761294847565 If your out there reading and watching, this is one more comment of mine you can add to your count

In fact, the 1873 Colt is the property of the U.S. It says so on both sides. My grandfather found it on the ice on the edge of Yuba River sometime between 1900 and 1910. I suspect he recognized it was a stolen gun and should have given it back. He instead packed it for protection as he drove his wagons full of concentrates from Atlanta back to the end of the OSLRR at Hill City. I first fired it on my 12th birthday, just south of MH where the sewer ponds now sit.

According to current law, the Colt is an antique not a firearm and is no longer a threat. I am saving one bullet that is to be destroyed when I pass on.

I suppose I could just bust the firing pin.

I will drop it into Anderson Ranch before that happens.

I agree totally with you Zook, if I may call you that.

  • People kill people! Guns, knives, baseball bats, cast iron skillets, etc. They only real difference is a gun doesn't require a person to be within arms reach, just like a bow and arrow.

Thank you Mike! I only wish there were more like me out there. There's a good possibility that if there were, there wouldn't such a hue and cry for gun control. Just look at the recent events in Moscow, Id.

  • The last I heard they found the shooter in Az to be insane. They can't try him until they get him sane, if they can. It will take a while to get him ready for trial. They will have to find a medication that works for him. From the pictures I have seen of him, he's not faking being crazy. You can tell by his eyes ..........I have seen that look before and have been very afraid..

  • I'm a type 7 FFL dealer

"......if you're a LAW-ABIDING citizen.......you have to do the paperwork, go though the background checks, waiting periods, RECORD-KEEPING,etc..."

Idaho doesn't have a waiting period. I've been told that some firearms dealers are telling people that there is a three day waiting period. Rather surprised. Not sure why they are telling customers this.

My daughter was here earlier and she refreshed my memory (Random Access Memory evidently) :-) about the 22 incident.

Her story - She was in the seventh grade when it happened. When she closed the closet door, there was a bang followed by a cloud of debris from the chair she always used. It scared her so much she hid in the bedroom until Grandma called to ask why she was late.

I may have been distracted when I put the rifle into the closet if I was running late for my second job, which was playing bass guitar in a country western band.

Still no excuse for my not checking or for my friend not clearing the chamber when he put the gun back in the truck.

Pickin' and grinnin' is far easier than blogging I am finding out.

Speaking of that, how is the therapy going, sir?

I will give ya the 60 cents and a bullet for the 357, wade cutter, or hollow point or one of each, not that 2 are needed.

I want to pay you for your time. Let's see... Govt wages, or fair wages? I can't even calculate the "worth" of it. Think of the savings created, the heart ache reduced, etc...

The mind reels at the thoughts of what you'd be being paid for. And yet, the Govt wouldn't want to pay YOU a decent wage. But if you were "the selected choice" by some uppity up..... Oh, the ins and outs are swirling in my head!

Actually, it might be good to save two instead of the traditional cowboy solution, which was to save one bullet for emergencies, or so I'm told.

Just picked this off the wire. Looks like we may be getting some movement soon.

"In order that Congress can return home for the holidays, they have reached an unpresidented, non-partisan econommic package compromise:

To save the economy, congress will announce that they will be ordering the immigration department to start deporting old people (instead of illegals) in order to lower Social Security and Medicare costs.

Old people are easier to catch, and will not remember how to get back home!

I started crying when I thought of you all.

Then it dawned on me....I'll see you on the bus!

    Happy Thursday
