The BUFFS came out of Guam and Utapao, just to set the record straight. The Marines I worked with were some of the hardest most dedicated workers I ever saw and they flew a heck of a lot of missions in support of their troops and would come back with shot up aircraft all the time.

Also the AF would come back with shot up aircraft all the time. I think it was a total effort by all forces that came up short because of divine guidance from DC. Nobody had it easy that I remember and I had 11 total years in Asia.

There were launches out of Thailand, Kadena AB, and Guam of B-52's and about ten were shot down in the North. There were a lot of picture taking aircraft involved in the war including the RB 66. I know we put photo flash (M112 and M123) on fighters in some cases,and you could hear the explosion when they went off. Also the gun ships had lots of cameras and were a very interesting view if you ever got the chance. Ah memories.

I'm not sure when the A-6's and A-7's started supporting downed pilots, but they played a big role in rescue. Even the 111's flew many missions over there but they spent more than their sharre of time broke. I always liked the lead sled as they would come back opened up like a tuna can and be ready to go in a day or two.
