"Blut und Ehre!"

.....so reads the inscription on the blade of a knife I bought yesterday.

I played an hour of music with my friend Bob Sisko and some other friends up at the City Park in Weiser Wednesday afternoon during Oldtime Fiddlers week. Instead of driving home Wednesday night, we stopped in Boise for the evening so we could shop yesterday.

One of our favorite haunts in Boise is the Antique World Mall down on Overland about a block south of Orchard. Donna collects antique dolls, colored glass pieces like pickle jars, and stuff for the backyard. I collect Roy Rogers stuff, 50's stuff, etc.

Everytime we go there, we always find thing that wasn't there on a previous visit. Anyway, she bought a few things, and when I passed one of the locked glass cases, I saw a few pieces of old WORLD WAR II NAZI memorabilia. There were two of those old cloth armbands that they used to wear......you've seen 'em in the documentary films, red with the white circled inserts and the black swastikas. There were two of those in pretty good shape, (for being as old as they are). And a couple of other items as well.

But the one that got MY attention was a "Hitler Youth Knife" with a scabbard. You have to be wary of "reproductions" of World War II stuff, and while I'm not an expert here, I could tell that NONE of this stuff was "repro". This knife has "miles" on it, the old nickel plating worn off in places, and an inscription that you can still make out, "Blut und Ehre!", which meant nothing to me.

I'm not a NAZI of course, but I DO have some old German rifles & pistols, and some Japanese guns as well, and I thought this knife would make a pretty good item for my collection, so I bought it.

When I got home, I figured I'd better get on the computer and look it up, and at least HOPE I bought the genuine article.

I did.

I was able to authenticate it through the net research. These knives were given to the young members of the "Hitler Youth", as they accomplished certain tasks during their training......in a "dark sort of way", the same system that the scouts HERE earn "merit badges."

Note------I in NO WAY compare the "Youth" with the "Scouts", so don't start on me.

The Inscription "Blut und Ehre!", means "blood & honor". On the left side of the blade is a symbol of what would appear to be an old knight in armor, and the words "Anyon Winger" and "Gesgeschutzt"....which my net references also confirmed, as the original manufacturer.

These markings were never duplicated on any repro, the "Blut und Ehre" is in script, and never seen again after 1937, and the swastika badging was only on the righthand handle. The archival photos and description are exact. So it's the real deal. The crude little blade scabbard is also correct. So it'll make a nice addition to my collection.

What it represents though, is a very dark piece of history, but still, it IS a piece of history, and a warning as well.

Indoctrination of youth. Through steady NAZI propaganda, it was considered a "great honor" to serve "Der Fuhrer", to create yet another generation of the pure Aryan blood-haired, blue-eyed "master race." The kids were put in uniforms, and SCHOOLED in the dogma of the 3rd Reich. They were destined to be the "next generation" for the German Army, the "select ones" going into the feared "SS", (had the war lasted long enough, or if they had WON it).........spooky thought.....

During the war, the Hitler Youth WAS used as messengers......they were taught to set up boobytraps and anit-tank traps (and DID). Finally, as the Russians surrounded Berlin with Hitler holed-up in his bunker, the Hitler Youth was sent out there to the perimeters, where they fought to their deaths in most cases for "Der Fuhrer" and the "honor" of dying for their "Fatherland." Hitler killed himself ANYWAY, as we all know. It was a terrible waste of life.

I worry about that to a degree right here, with OUR kids. No, they aren't being put into uniforms (except for the ROTC----which is voluntary). But they ARE being politically "indoctrinated" in colleges all over this country, and it's filtering into the lower grades now as well.

Not long after Obama became President, we all SAW (excet for the Dems who pretended NOT to see), those news videos of 3rd & 4th graders, lined up on the stages of different grade schools, singing those Obama "praise songs."

No.......no........I don't think they're looking to form an "Obama Youth" or anything like that..........but when you've studied history enough, and have watched the old documentaries, seen the German kids with their snare drums and chants, "all hail Der Fuhrer"....and then you see what we ALL SAW a couple of years ago on National television, it DOES sends a slight chill up your spine, especially if you know enough about history.

Enough parents jumped on the schools for that, and we've not seen it since.......but prior to THAT, we'd never seen it at ALL in OUR COUNTRY.

So we just need to stay alert as time goes on. The hearts and minds of our children and grandchildren do NOT belong to the government, or any individual leader, and this old knife I'm looking at right now is a definite reminder of what happens when indoctrination is not taken seriously......"no harm done", or...."just some FAD they're going through right now"..........

"Paranoid?............no............just mindful. I didn't have any problems with the truck before we went to Weiser & back, these last couple of days........but that didn't stop me from CHECKING the oil, tranny fluid and radiator before we left!

These are no longer the days of "Leave it to Beaver."

We need to keep an eye on things.

I agree with you totally. It is amazing how some young people do not think things through concerning every day choices and politics.

I would like to point out that the video I gave a link to can not be viewed. I then went back out on the internet and tried to play the same video that others had posted on YouTube and they won't play.

There used to be some Clymers from Weiser that played for the Old-Time Fiddlers. They came to one of the family reunions and played in Wyoming.

It wasn't noisy or disruptive in any way, but someone called the cops, if you can believe that.

Zook When my Grandson was in HS I was helping him on some History......he had to do a report on propaganda and I found a really interesting site about a teacher slowing changing the way teaching was done previously and at the end of the story they were praising Hitler. Gosh I wish I could remember the name of it, because I want to read it again. It's on the internet some where??

First thing she has them to stop saying the pledge of allegiance. If I find it I will post the link.

there was at least one school that not only had these kids singing some sort of "all hail obama" song, but they were wearing some type of uniform and were doing some sort of marching drill. our local newsREADERS gushed about how wonderful these kids were getting INVOLVED in the political process at such a young age (grade school). i think that school was in georgia, but i might not remember correctly.

your mentioning of the hitler youth reminded me of the movie CABARET. there is a scene in that film where this choir of blond haired boys in hitler youth uniforms is singing a song "TOMORROW BELONGS TO ME" and, realizing what they represented, these clear-eyed, true believing CHILDREN made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

SOME SCHOOL KIDS IN AMERICA WEAR UNIFORMS....The parents elected for that to happen to save money.Stops the competition for the best dressed dailey especially in communities were they cant afford to do that..

apples and oranges, lamont. i know and actually support the idea of school uniforms. but the unis these obama praise singing kids were wearing were more military style, including berets. not the same as SCHOOL unis.

ok but you didnt state that........I guess i am having a problem accepting everything that seems to be heaped at this mans feet,especially if it has a negative connotation.What he needs to own he can own and I go along with that.But a lot of things he should not have to own and the implications that he should are wrong.

The attempt to no holds bared marginalze this president is beyond beliefe,and to what end????IT CERTAINLY DOESNT HELP THE NATION.BUT THAT IS THE INTENT.

One last thing a lot of organizations outside of main stream AMERICA WEAR UNIFORMS, BERETS ETC.unless these are organized anti American organizations,are they too to be denergrated and marginalized????? and looked at with suspecion.There are things closer to home that need to be looked at with the same suspecion if not more.And guess what there are private schools in some places that you might think there arnt any.last but not least THE MAN IS A ROLE MODEL FOR BLACK YOUTH........."SEE I CAN BE PRESIDENT" I CALL THAT A POSITIVE...........HAVE A GOOD ONE

IT shows that most AMERICANS FEEL THAT WAY...for the most part a majority have BUT NOT ALL.AND again I WILL SAY THE OBSTACLES ARE STILL IN PLACE....WETHER THEY ARE STEROTYPING,TO EXSPECTING MORE THAN,AND PEOPLE NEED TO STOP PUTTING 100% FAITH IN WHAT THEY SEE ON TV.....that instrument is the biggest obstacle in some areas.

PEOPLE might want to talk to each other they will find we are all the same our colour doesnt make us,white ,black or green we all want the same things and go about getting them the same way......hard work.....

LOOKS AUTHENTIC.....I THINK I WOULD CK ON WHAT ITS WORTH.....YOU MIGHT HAVE A FIND ON YOUR HANDS.......LATTER

LIKE i said just talk to each other it goes a long way.....It was changing when i went to basic.....driving thru texas from san antonio to amirrillo we stoped on a chartered bus to get lunch.This person told the blacks we had to go to the back door if we wanted sommething.....YES in uniform as a group........EVERYBODY GOT BACK ON THE BUS......only the driver ate.

The highlighting bothers me more than anything....like the blog on joe lewis it is not the comments it is the lack of,the same for the other one, that says more than words.If joe was a thief I WONDER HOW MANY COMMENTS WE WOULD HAVE THEN,SAME GOES FOR CAIN.

The military made strides that cannot be duplicated and the reason is called survival through that initial forced reasoning we learn things we would not normally learn.......we are forced to talk to each other......laugh.....funny how that changes the picture........Americans all that is what we are first and foremost.Treat each other with respect and dignity,and get out of the judgement business and we will live the dream.......got to go latter.....hey zook did you read the article?????

There still could be discrimination in the Military. Obama signed the DADT repeal but it seems that the Republicans are trying to stop it from going into effect

zook.....basic for me.......laugh.....you figure it out.....no it would not today in that place. But it still happens.When it does sooner than later they get tagged.

I KNOW THE ANGER ZOOK.........100% AGREEMENT THERE. BEEN THAT WAY FOR YEARS FOR THE SAME REASONS.And then we get the stay at homes telling us how disgusted they are when we have something to say that they dont like.THEY should live our imperfections,agent orange for just one example,getting gased and your country telling you It didnt happen for another.So exscuse us if we have something to complain about, bad feet,back,legs didnt come from sitting on the couch watching it on TV.I meant to ask you are you planning on moving TO ANOTHER COUNTRY ???????? Yes i feel used and some folks wouldnt understand that......the thing that gets me, there are a lot of us.When i play the sockeye we usually get about 5-10 of us vets come out....we play our age music,ladys a tramp,whats going on,take the a train,girl from ipanema etc we have a real good time.same at pengilleys. We all kinda gravitate to each other,the bond is there and it doesnt matter what branch you were in, it is kinda eerie.

I know your point on JOE...... YOU HAVE TO QUESTION WHY THAT HAPPENED.......AND POLETICS BECOMES A PART OF THE SHAME...MY POINT WAS who commented on your blog and who DID NOT. I found that intresting considering most people think of JOE LEWIS as AND AMERICAN HERO.........

I have a son who joined the Army National Guard before he finished HS. This help pay for his college education. He is now in his 40's and went up the ranks to become a Major and is still in the Army National Guard who will be deployed next year (yes sorry to say next year) to Afghanistan. He was suppose to go this year but they pushed it down until next year.

Years ago he was a reserve and after college became a bank manager. After years of this he decided banking wasn't for him so went active in the Guard.

I am only speaking of my Son since comments have been made about the Military and I am a proud MAMA

PRACTICALITY has a lot to do with the dream act.IT is not about votes.HOW ARE YOU GOING TO ROUNDUP 12 MILLION PEOPLE ??????? and we need to ask ourselfes if there illegal why do we let them join the military????????? Or is that ok as long as we have a body?????????....I dont see the right clamering to stop the dream act,so does that mean it is about votes?????? THE LAWSUIT WAS ABOUT FEDERAL JURISDICTION,THAT IS NOT A FORBIEN WORD.

THE IMPLICATION OF THE PANTHER STANDING OUTSIDE A POLLING PLACE......the law says as long as they did not attempt to intimadate anyone they did nothing wrong,So if the klan wants to stand outside as long as they do not attempt to intimadate anyone they can do that.It is when you threaten,bodily,verbally etc that the law comes into play.Voter intimadation goes on in the south to this day nothing is done about it how come?????

I might remind people that it was the rights idea to try terrorist in civilian federal courts,when this administration said OK THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WAS A BAD IDEA.....if they are guilty, why do we care were they are tried ?????? PERSONALLY i dont care as long as JUSTICE is served.

If the right just wants to pick and not be constructive then they share in the faults of the system,the roadblocks to governess have been erected and played to the hilt.LIKE I have said the right is not the only ones who can govern.The obstruction by the right has made it almost impossible to get anything done for the nation.You talk of one sided governess but that is exactly what you are advocating

Got a friend here from arizona.She is a native American....says she is thinking of selling her house and moving back here.Tired of the abuse with traffic stops and such,starting to scare the heck out of her kids who are 5,8,13.I have been worried about her with that.....plus she is absolutly gorgeous so im wondering how much that plays into it to.WELL GLAD YOU HAD A GOOD ONE GOT TO PLAY TONIGHT SEE YA LATTER
