Dam, I'm a minority come to think of it. I don't believe in welfare for lazy people. I don't think people should buy steaks with food stamps (card) and then use a roll of cash to pay for their beer and cigarettes, and then get into a newer vehicle. I remember eating peanut butter sandwiches and Mac and cheese while in school because I couldn't afford anything else. I believe there are jobs if you are willing to start at a lower wage then you think you are worth or collecting unemployment for 2.5 years just because you can.

I believe in personal responsibility and accountability. I guess that puts me in the minority.

That being said does being a minority get me free schooling and move me to the front of the line for selected government programs? Wait that would put me in the majority if I took special favors and handouts because I claimed I was a minority and I'm OWED. Darn another catch 22, if I take the freebees than I won't be a minority anymore and won't be eligible to freeload.

  • Anyone can be a minority depending on the situation that they find themselves in. Some of it is just the number of the people in the room who agree with you.

Skin color never mattered to me although, I must admit that living where I did in ID meant that I saw very few black people unless I went to Mtn Home.

None of us are cornering the market on some type of minority status these days. I say that because being a woman working at the job that I do as long as I have, I have seen men come in and start out several dollars more an hour in their pay than I did.

I work in sales and customer service. I know my customers and cater to them as much as I can. But someone else can come in and poof! they are starting out ahead of me in pay and have less responsibility.

So We all have something in our lives that gets us down. I am thankful that I have a job and hopefully will get to keep it. That doesn't mean that I am happy about some things. Life is just not fair.

working at the same job for 21 years means that I have seen a lot of people come and go. Some of them don't even last a month at times and others have been here for over 10 years.

I am so sorry that someone told Lamont that his color mattered. It should never be about that at all.

  • SO.....TROUBLE......... LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT....ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT IF YOU ARE A MINORITY YOU ARE A FREELOADER ???????? AND IM ASKING BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO GET IT WRONG. We are not owed anything but and equal oppertunity, without road blocks, and that is all most ask for, under the law.

KH GAL........it shouldnt but unfortunatly it does,......Believe me..... I GET TIRED OF IT ....

it is one of the causes of high blood pressure,it is very stresfull on a daily basis.as a woman you understand that.I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT LOCATION

played a prom yrs ago in HAGERMAN....the kids had never seen a real live black person before,it was surreal....

  • I guess I can say I'm a "hard to find" Minority.... I have never had a drivers license

    Trouble

Your lunches sound good to me. When I was in school all I got was a bowl of Campbells Chicken Noodle soup and by the time I walked back to school I was hungry...

    KH Gal

I understand where your coming from.

Back in the early 70's I was laid off and a Man was hired to take my place. I filed discrimination charges against a store in Nebraska and I won the lawsuit.

My Lawyer was a Black Man

Lamont let me straighten it out for you. I'm not implying that if you are a minority you are a freeloader. But you are correct about the playing field not being level. I just see it tilted the other direction. I will give you an example that is real. I went to school with both of them and shared a number of classes to include ROTC.

    1. White male with 4.0 GPA, wrestling team captain, football team, baseball team, and the cadet LTC Squadron Commander for the first semester of school then aid to our Aerospace education instructor (teacher).

    2. White female with 3.7 GPA, on swim team and was the Squadron Commander for the second semester of our ROTC unit.

Both got a letter from our local congressman to and applied to the USAF Academy. Only one got in, can you guess who was invited to attend school at the USAF Academy? Level playing field I don't think so. As for the handouts and freebies, my first assignment was March Field in Southern California. I was eligible for food stamps and turned them down. I guess it had something to do with the way, what I did instead was went out and got a part time job to make ends meet. Since I retired from the military I have maintained full time and part time jobs to help make ends meet. But Lamont if you want an education spend a day around the first of the month at Albertsons and you will see what I'm talking about when it comes to abusing our welfare and food stamp programs. You won't just see women or men, white or black; you will see a lot of people taking advantage of the system no matter what age, sex, color, or religion.

  • How 'bout baloni sandwiches. Now I can't eat baloni, and hardly eat a sandwich. And then there was the bruised apple, and single cookie.

mtuser, you had meat and cookies? You were from one of those rich families, but I do remember the bruised apples.

  • Yes I do in some ways... I have never agreed with everything a president or congress wants to do...

I like Obama and if they don't come up with someone who can actually make improvements, I will vote for him again. Just like I did George W. AND I am not talking about talking the talk, I am wanting details how they are going to make fixes

  • Zook My statement on John Huntsman was sarcasm

If only people today could model themselves after Joe Louis

Zooks Words "He never despised or put down our country"

This is just how bad things are people want to go to jail to get health care. Sorry state of affairs and we have a President that is not doing anything to fix it.

  • Some people will find ways to be creative to get health care if they do away with the health care reform... Obama pushed for everyone to have health care and where did that get him?......Oh that's right the Republicans filed a lawsuit against it..

We've been in a shamble long before Obama took office.....

So how has speaking up Against our Country helped Homer?

What changes has the Tea Party made for our Country?

What's different other then a few Republicans got a seat in congress?

Has putting our Country down helped the housing market, wall street, food & Gas prices, health care, unemployment?

Has it brought out some wonderful Republican Candidates? Which ones do you think will beat Obama?

Enlighten me ! Refresh my memory!

  • Homer I think your the one loosing it !! I wrote Zooks words

Zooks Words "He never despised or put down our country"

    You WROTE

Who's putting down the country, MsM? We are in a shambles right now....you'd KNOW that if you ever bothered to take off your Obama glasses.

It's ABSOLUTELY AMERICAN to speak up when things go wrong! It's NOT just for your side, so get over it.

Sure sounds and looks like we were talking about "COUNTRY"

I don't see anything about "THIS ADMINISTRATION"

    Who's the Ringy one ?

Or are you trying to change Country to administration?

Mr Republican I can make my own opinion with out you butting in ! You need a time out !!

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Jun 22, 2011, at 9:52 PM
  • Lamont hasn't been on today so I guess its my turn for you to TRY and strike me out ! HA !

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Wed, Jun 22, 2011, at 9:54 PM
  • You are messed up Homer

I wrote zooks words which I got from his Joe Louis blog. He said "Joe Louis never despised or put down our Country."

and then I wrote "If only people today could model themselves after Joe Louis"

Then you turned it into attacking Obama an this administration So who's the ringy one?

And now your saying I am playing victim !! You are loosing it !

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Jun 23, 2011, at 8:15 AM
  • That ain't much.....

I will say I am disappointed in Obama not bringing more troops home from Afghanistan and I'm not alone on this . A poll taken right after his speech on tv last night said 72% of Americans are unhappy with the small troop withdrawal

  • Do any of you that have been here since the 60's or 70's remember Racism that happened here?

    I can remember 3

    1. past time bar

    2.. Masonic Lodge

    3. Skin Heads

    Hope that refresh's your memory

If it doesn't I will tell one

Why would anyone want to bring this type of "memories" back up? Every town and person could have things in their past history that they are not proud of. Our community and people that live here have so much more to share and reminisce of history and good lessons. I guess I would choose not to "banter" on such negativity.
  • Brenda I was going to bring it up as a history lesson about this town and what used to happen back in those days... We have come along ways since then. And Racism has been kicked around on these blogs over and over again....And I wasn't going to mention names......

But if you don't want me to tell a story about what went on here then I won't.....I will let it go..

Lets just sweep it under the rug !

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Jun 23, 2011, at 9:25 AM
  • Homer I will not talk anymore about Racism on these blogs even thought your the one who brought it up in your previous post. Remember its Negativity !!

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Jun 23, 2011, at 9:35 AM
  • You need to scroll further up.... Your post that you posted which was written by someone else not by you but you posted it. Go back and read it and then squirm around it.....

I had been waiting for some one to catch it but everyone danced around it....

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Jun 23, 2011, at 9:50 AM
  • Yes Brenda, some of these want to poke the bear and stand back to see if anyone reacts to it.

    it is really a shame.

I could not agree more. Usually I stay so completely out of the comments but it has been such disgust for me lately that I had to say something. That poor bear ought to look like Swiss cheese by now as it has been poked over and over again. Some manage to take a wonderful story or opinion and just destroy the entire jest and lesson.

Everyone have a pleasant weekend and enjoy our beautiful weather even with its ups and downs.

  • Homer I didn't realize that your post was only for Zook and no one but him should respond to it..... My mistake.... I won't comment back to any of your posts unless you put my name in it. Girl Scout Honor...

I agree with you Homer we should be able to have freedom of speech on the blogs so we can debate as not everyone has the same opinion... It would be pretty boring if everyone thought the same thing and posted the same thoughts...

Plus I think it gets peoples interests to come back here to this web site to read and the paper gets noticed.

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Jun 23, 2011, at 10:40 AM
  • The only problem I have with that Homer is sometimes you don't think my comments are intellectual enough for you and you then belittle me such as Ringy and that's only one there's plenty more.

So how do I know when you think my post isn't intellectually enough for you? LOL!

Our opinion's aren't the same so what should I do ?

Will you put out a red flag so I know I'm getting close to that intellectual level of yours? Did I do it now? LOL !

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Jun 23, 2011, at 11:02 AM
  • Brenda I try to be factual but if some one says I did and I didn't then I like to show them the correction. I guess its my Old School way of teaching lots of kids to tell the truth... And if I was wrong I usually admit I was wrong and sometimes will apologize for the mistake...

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Jun 23, 2011, at 11:15 AM
  • I am willing to try the new approach Homer and my red flag remark was not argumentative, just want to set up boundaries which we shouldn't have to do. LOL!

all we have to do and I am including myself is when commenting back to a post that we don't agree to .......Respect the previous poster.

Respecting different opinions without belittling or name calling.

Now if we can get the people in Washington D.C to do that we would maybe be able to fix some things.
