  • I've been reading about the National Dept. It is always increasing and the congressional Budget Office has already done the numbers crunch on the National Dept. already have it outlined up until 2013 as to how it will grow.

Here's a little bit of what I copied and pasted about the National Dept. If you want the link I can give it to you. I only copied and pasted a small part of it. The reference below doesn't show what it will be in 2013 but I seen it somewhere, just can't find it right now.

It's been increasing before the Civil War

In nominal dollars the public debt rose and then fell between 1992 and 2000 from $3T in 1992 to $3.4T in 2000. During the administration of President George W. Bush, the gross debt increased from $5.6 trillion in January 2001 to $10.7 trillion by December 2008,[7] rising from 58% of GDP to 70.2% of GDP. During March 2009, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that gross debt will rise from 70.2% of GDP in 2008 to 100.6% in 2012.[8]

  • Frank,

Mountain Home is hurting and will continue to hurt for many years to come. The budget issues our country faces is due to both Dems and Repubs, but if you talk to either/or, they will blame the other. Some have said that in order to figure out how we (country) got into this current mess is to go back 8 years. Not sure why it takes 8 years for a decision to affect the current economy. MH is starting to feel the effects of the economy (school funding is one), the base is spending less which brings in less money to the MH economy. As a country, we live way beyond our means, this is not true for everyone but for most it is on point. One example is the housing situation. We have people that purchased homes that should not have done so knowing that they could not afford them then and not to mention now. I do not blame the banks for this, I blame the individual that signed on the dotted line. Yes the banks could have had more (better) loan oversight, but it still comes down to the individual themselves. All this contributes to our current situation. The national debt will continue to expand unless we as a country stop giving money to every country out there, when we have our own issues to address here. I am neither republic nor democrat nor tea party, I vote for the person I feel has the best outlook for our country. I believe you will continue to see businesses in MH cutting back or closing due to how people spend their money. In most cases it is due to those believing their jobs are at risk....and they are.

Huckabee falsely claims national debt is "eight times" what it was under Bush

    May 07, 2010 9:17 pm ET -- 59 Comments

Mike Huckabee falsely claimed that under President Obama, the national debt is "eight times" what it was under President Bush. In fact, the total public federal debt on May 6 was 1.2 times larger than it was when Obama entered office.

Bachmann Blasts Taxes, Spending And Debt Under Obama -- Falsely Claims Bush Only Built Up $400 Billion In Debt

Bachmann argued that "there is no moral equivalency" between the admitted over-spending of the Bush administration compared to the Obama presidency. "Because if you look at the debt level accumulated under George W. Bush, 400 some-odd billion dollars

With no fanfare and little notice, the national debt has grown by more than $4 trillion during George W. Bush's presidency.

It's the biggest increase under any president in U.S history.

On the day President Bush took office, the national debt stood at $5.727 trillion. The latest number from the Treasury Department shows the national debt now stands at more than $9.849 trillion. That's a 71.9 percent increase on Mr. Bush's watch.

  • Debt when Clinton left = $5.674 trillion

Debt when Bush left = $9.849 trillion

So the national debt rose $ 4.175 trillion dolloars in

8 years of the Bush administration, which adds up to

$521Billion a year each year Bush was in office.

Currently the national debt is $11.618Trillion dollars.

The national debt has increased a record $1.769 TRILLION Dollars in

just 7 months...if Obama continues the current rate of spending

the debt will have increased $7.076 TRILLION dollars in just 4 YEARS !

I can blame until I am blue in the face but the fact is Obama took the job knowing good and well the situations of this country... his mouth was making promising is rear end could not keep....

reallycurious, using that kind of logic will certainly come out with that conclusion. The fact is that your formula is flawed. The $1.769 TRILLION Dollars is in Obama's first year and a half, not 7 months. Secondly to state that if the debt continues at that rate of spending the debt will have increased $7.076 TRILLION dollars in just 4 years is based on a flawed formula. That's what they call "fuzzy" math. That's the kind of stuff the fox guys pull out of the air. Secondly, if is a big word.

The point is that we're getting off point. The issue is not who has put us in this spot economically, but how we can help to get out of it. Two posters have stated that the fear of people losing their jobs is what's stifling spending.(growth) "That" is the point. The "fear" of losing one's job. That fear is what paralyzes our economy when the exact opposite is what's needed. Understand that this isn't a unique occurrence at all. It happens every so often, and we've "always" recovered, and we will recover this time as well.

Who is behind this "conspiracy"?(not literally) The political media! They will do all they can to cause the faithful to believe the country is spiraling out of control at the hands of the present administration, and these Paladins of Fear aren't interested in our petty little lives or America at large, they're only interested in their tv and radio programs and ratings.

Think about it. No one likes a negative person. They think that bad things happen to people who "think" bad things will happen. Alternatively, they believe that good will happen to people that believe that good will happen. It's a very simple ideology.

Now when I suggest spending instead of stifling, I'm not talking about purchasing expensive luxury items, but more basic products. If you're thinking of purchasing a home, now is the perfect time as home prices are extremely low. If you "need" a new car, don't let the naysayers influence you. If you "need" a refrigerator, microwave, set of dishes, kitchen table, new washer or dryer, etc, don't let fear dictate if or when you'll purchase those. There are many basic items that we need that we may be holding off on purchasing because we "fear" we may lose our job, but the fact is that we never know "if" or "when" we may lose our jobs anyway, even in the best of times. Companies down-sizing, moving jobs out of our state, outsourcing, etc. If the people of Idaho would begin to "invest" into Idaho's economy, it would most assuredly improve the financial situation in our state and country.

And I understand what you're saying bazookaman. I've been a disillusioned voter for 10 years because I came to realize that politics and politicians are the same regardless of affiliation. They say that they have a certain agenda, but behind close doors, the deals go on and "screw" all of us as Americans. Believe me, I'm not a proponent of Barak Obama, but I'm trying to communicate that we've got to try to make things better as the people who "are" the voice of our government, not the politicians. I realize that it's a vain attempt but I can't just sit still while the government removes our voices from the equation of governing our nation.

  • Frank,

I would hope that the deficit does not reach those numbers I posted, but at the current rate and the spending spree our President is on, they will get here sooner than later. Our country has toooooo many problems ourselves to be throwing money at every country that seems to be on the down and out. Hmmmmmm the majority of that will never be paid back, oh wait it will be paid back by us taxpayers. I do not blame anyone, I blame everyone to include myself for not reeling in the spending our government is doing. We are all on the same page, well almost. There will always be different ways to look at things, neither are wrong or right.

    Franco,

Make up your mind whether this blog is about blame or not... here are your quotes:

"Lately I've been hearing more and more complaints about the economic "decline" under the Obama administration.(which of course began under GWB's watch)"

Why would you put this in the first few lines if it wasn't about the blame....you wanted to dole out... I remind everyone that Barry O took on this countries problems of his own free will, making promises his rear end could not keep... and you now QUOTE:

"The point is that we're getting off point. The issue is not who has put us in this spot economically, but how we can help to get out of it."

If the issue for you wasn't who to blame why put it in the first few lines of your blog...

bazookaman: Yep, I know what you're talking about regarding barely being able to make payments and such. I receive SSDisability, which I'm very thankful for, but I'm unable to do what I preach. Again, I'm not talking about going heavily into debt, but just not holding back on basic products we need instead of being so fearful that we think we've got to wait until 2012. If people can pay "cash" for those basic products, all the better. Remember when I said "need" a new car, I meant a new car to "you", not necessarily a brand new vehicle just out on the market. "If" you can do it, than do it. If it's not financially responsible, than don't.

  • In today's society, there are way to many people that believe someone else should come to the rescue. I agree with bazooka about if you can only afford a chevy, then why buy a caddy. Today's housing economy is in this very mess. I am all for everyone owning a home, but only buy one that you can afford on a 30 year fixed mortgage. If the only way someone can buy a home is with a fancy loan or teaser loan, then keep renting. For some reason there is this aura about having to keep up with the Jones or those that we see on MTV, VH1 or BET. The overall US economy has to do a complete 180 in order to even begin to reduce the debt we have incurred. This is only my opinion, but the bill that was passed to try and save the housing market was a horrible idea. That should have been left to work itself out. Unfortunately many have lost their homes due to the loss of a job, but for the others, the house was too expensive in the beginning for them, and no amount of help will cure that.

Yes, it's a travesty and a slap in the face of every taxpayer. When we as individuals and families don't have enough money to pay our debts, what do we do? Just as you said, we put a "freeze" on our spending. That means that "framed original painting" that we just have to have is sacrificed. Here in Idaho, the idea of a trolly system at this time is a luxury that Boise can't afford. Raising taxes for highways might be a good idea in a different time, but not now, especially when education and Social Services are being cut. Politicians have their priorities butt-backwards.

    -- Posted by Franco8274 on Sun, Jun 27, 2010, at 9:43 AM
  • Oh Bazooka. Buy what you want and worry about how/if you will pay for it later---silly guy! What are you thinking? Our Government has groomed us to fail and depend on them. Look at the banking industry. Soon, we will pay our mortgages to our Government (it is already going on if you really think about it). Who cares what you can afford?

Perfect example! Our local MHSD and SOME of the kids who attend these schools telling us, the taxpayers, what they are ENTITLED TO! By law, they are "ENTITLED" to an education---reading, math, science, ENGLISH, etc. This "ENTITLEMENT" does NOT include sports and fluff. So, this community passed a tax hike.

The MHSD promised they would cut. So why did they hire a 2nd VP for the MHHS as soon as the bond passed? Granted, this person is said to be shared between 2 schools but I thought (not really, I knew they were feeding us a line of crap) we were going to trim the upper level fat.

Not to worry! In 2 years, we will be in worse shape. The MHSD $40.00 PLUS per hour money man will still have no clue regarding finance/budget. They will once again come to the people for more money. Will we be smart enough to say no? Probably not. The bleeding hearts in fear of education will once again give in and vote for yet another tax hike in the name of "education." Too bad none of that money will go for books or actual education based items. Education, MH style.

  • Poor Frank. It's apparent to me that your liberal ideology won't allow you to see that the fears and concerns of many americans are REAL, and not imagined. Nor are they contrived by radio talking heads or tea parties (tea baggers, according to you, which lets everyone know how biased you are). Time to grasp reality, little buddy. The fact that Obama's approval rating is now sub 50% is a reflection on HIM and him alone. As part of your therapy I recommend that you try to get through ONE day without blaming Bush for something. Bush didn't sign the $800 billion stimulus package that never stimulated anything. Bush didn't fire the CEO of GM and take over interest in the Auto industry. Bush didn't force through socialized healthcare even though the majority of americans did not want it. Bush didn't enact laws to control the banking industry, and finally, Bush had NOTHING to do with the gulf mess that STILL is going on. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see, Frank. Americans ARE concerned because nothing this joke of a president has done thus far has helped. Embrace REALITY!

  • Amen Mtn. Homer! That was one of the best and most clear posts in a very long time. Well stated.

Those who worry, such as Bazooka, are paranoid/racist. Those who dare to question "our" Muslim leader are unpatriotic and guilty of treason and should be burned at the stake or drowned in a tank of water in RR Park at the start of the Farmer's Market (next to the porn stand of course).

Those who have concerns are nuts. Those who dare to voice concern based on facts are CRAZY. Yep. I understand. It all makes perfect sense.

Who does Mexico have ANYTHING to say about the laws in Arizona? Why after all of this time is oil still spewing into the Gulf without any end in sight? Why did Obama pass yet another bill that would allow more terrorists into OUR Country? When is enough really going to be enough? Oh, and let us not forget that stimulus package! Do you feel stimulated?

Sir, first of all, I'm not a liberal, I'm a moderate conservative. Secondly, the "talking heads" are guilty of magnifying the negativity of our economic problems for political gain. For "Tea Baggers" to equate themselves with the men of the "Boston Tea Party" is a smear to the "that" tea party.

My post was not about the poor performance of President Obama.(Special SPECIAL NOTE: 45 PERCENT IN FAVOR OF HEALTH CARE REFORM, 42 PERCENT OPPOSED) It was about loosening up the purse strings(a little bit) to assist in pulling us out of this economic disaster. If you remember, one of the things that Obama said early on was that he needed the American people to help in reviving the economy, meaning "investing" in our economy. Idealistically, if we all did that, we wouldn't be in the condition as a nation that we are today.

As far as blaming Bush, his administration and policies, or lack thereof, is what created the economic mess that Obama inherited. Bush did virtually nothing regarding domestic policies until late 2008.

How you can point out Obama's approval rating when Bush's was 35% at best, puzzles me.

Yes, of course Americans are concerned about the economy, but I wasn't suggesting Mountain Homers go out and spend exorbitant amounts of money on high ticket products, but the less costly "basic" and "needed" items that make up a household.

Why don't you look up information regarding Idaho's state of the economy instead of puppeting what others are saying?

You're really the one here that needs to embrace "REALITY".

"There are none so blind as those who wear "Red"-colored glasses". "Red=extreme right-wingers".

    -- Posted by Franco8274 on Sun, Jul 4, 2010, at 9:34 AM
  • It will a long time before there is a mad rush to invest in our economy. Us Americans were burned once, not many will give it a second chance. It really does not matter whose watch this happened under, it happened. Yes Bush could have had more strict rules for those to follow, but then when do you draw the line for government intervention. Our current government has taken control of many different businesses with little to show for it. We should have let this take it's course. The infusion of billions of dollars has shown no advancement in our economy, but we did put future generations deeper in debt because of it. I am all for checks and balances within our systems, but at some point the system has to work it out itself.

  • that is not what i am saying there is no reason in a conversation here in idaho with a peer to be snide.......i personall;y did not attack bush as a person. i did as a president whos policys i diagreed with.....and i did not disagree with everything just because he represented the right side of polotics.....i dont know who you guys are i was talking to you......i take offense when people like limbaugh attack peoples family,to include wife and children in a very derogatory way.....and everybody is so afraid of him that not one will stand up and say .....not the family back off.....why is tha ?........and people want to know why some of us feel this president and his family have been ridiculed from inaugral day....you want to go after him fine....wife and children wrong..........the nuslim countries gave us algebra and higher math that is a fact.......the suit in az is about a constitutional fact which from what i have read had to be done for several reasons........anyhow....i still dont know were we were sopposed to get all the troops to lock down the border but i guess we could go from ....iraq to afganastan to the border and back again......i guess we could become a third world country and shoot them as they come across.....we had options, and its all about what is acceptable???????? you know when people percieve things arnt going well we scapegoat.....i have been on the other side of that.....so have you .....your retired from the service then you dont need to make as much as this other guy.....have you heard that before?????how did it feel......sarah palin in my humble opinion is a carpetbagger out to make all the money she can......any sensible person you,me,know what she is doing but she doesnt know when to stop the limelight has gotten addictive....she stands for nothing......and your right.....if they would stop covering her she would go away after awhile but dont bet on it....

and for the record I DONT HAVE A SIDE I WANT WHATS BEST FOR MY COUNTRY....SO THE YOUR SIDE MY SIDE IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THAT IS SO DISTRUCTIVE.......THINK ABOUT THAT.......1 st amendment is great when its constructive.....but to use it to denegrate and or destroy is wrong period.......for me there are limits....you do what you want.....i was raised to respect certain things and always people that will not change...it is a constant of civilization....have a great day......old cars love im
