More than a half million petitions were delivered yesterday to House Members in front of the Capitol. the first major vote of our new congress showed that they mean business.
The House voted 245-189 in favor of repealing the healthcare reforms implemented last year. All 242 House Republicans voted for repeal, as did three Democrats. All 189 "no" votes were cast by Democrats. Everyone who signed that petition were a big part of making history! Now we go on to continue the fight in the Senate--call it "Round Two".
According to a recent survey conducted by Washington Post, it is a very close fight. Survey research suggests that, while Americans are overwhelmingly supportive of healthcare reform, they are not sure the reform cobbled together by President Obama and the last Congress is the proper fix. According to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll, the country is divided three ways: 33 percent for complete repeal of the measure adopted last year, 35 percent for partial repeal and 30 percent for no repeal. (NPR.com) However, there are plenty of surveys that show that there are more people who want the law to be left alone. "The GOP is calling it the Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act. Democrats, defending the bill, argued that covering 30 million additional people necessarily creates jobs in the health care sector and reduces the burden on small businesses. And repealing it would add more than $200 billion to the federal deficit, according to the Congressional Budget Office. "I want to just advise people watching at home playing the now-popular drinking game, if you take a shot whenever the Republicans say something that's not true, please assign a designated driver," Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) said." (Huffinton Post) The fight must continue to repeal this monster healthcare reform lie and look other alternatives which will not bankrupt our Kid's future while still helping those who need insurance. I'm going to break stride in my own blog later today about this, so what I post doesn't get lost in the shuffle. I think it's important for everybody to see this thing--------not thru CNN or FOX-----------but through this bill itself.
How can repealing a bill that's taking more money out of the American taxpayer's pockets, create an additional $200 billion in deficit? I can't afford health care now and I DON'T have a pre-exiting medical condition. Where's our AFFORDABLE health care. More smoke screen so my tax money goes to the "less fortunate ones" so they can have health care. (i.e. MORE WELFARE)Then I'm going to be required by law to carry health care, that I can't afford now? You can't get blood from a turnip, but I am QUITE sure our politicians in Washington will figure out a way. How bout we fix the problem. Our overly expensive drugs, medical care, and health insurance. Make them lower their prices instead of making the working tax payers foot the bill for everyone else. Have our congressmen and representitives use our (the American taxpayers) available health care! It would probably be fixed tomorrow.
One more quick question... I looked up the population in this country and according to our latest census there are 314.214 million people in this country. An additional 30 million are going to be covered under this bill. That's 9.5% of our population. What about the other 90.5%???? How many of them are covered now, and what is this bill doing for them???
It's not over yet It might have passed the house but it won't pass the senate.
Both sides need to come together and make Obama's Health Care Plan work.

I cannot make changes alone but I will have had enough when our economy changes for the better.
When houses start selling again, when people who are out of work get jobs, and we have a do able Health Care Plan in place. When Republicans and Democrats can work together, when the crime rate goes down. When people care about people no matter what their skin color is or no matter how rich or poor they are. When people stop judging those they don't understand.

Thankfully Obamacare won't be repealed. It's a great topic for conservatives in 2012. There will have to be another house cleaning in 2012 and then it will go along with all the wasteful spending.
I dunno..........Harry Reid seems to be pretty concerned about it. Scuttlebutt has it he is trying to keep it from coming to a vote in the Senate. One would think his own majority would be enough to stop it.
Unless of course, there are some who weren't up for re-election this past November but WILL be next time, and fear being thrown out by the voters as well.
Interesting situation. If, and this is a BIG "IF", it WERE to pass through the Senate, the President would have to pause a moment before a veto. If it passed BOTH Houses, and he vetoed it, this bill might take on the appearance of a PERSONAL agenda (which I don't really think it is), and he'd pay dearly in 2012.
There is little wonder why the Oval Office has quickly greyed the hair of almost ALL who have been in there.
The bill won't be repealed. This will give republicans a piece of what they need to push against in 2012. Its very fustrating that niether the Dems or Reps realize that it wasn't a shift to the right that happened. It was a permanent awakening of fiscal conservatives. I don't know a single person that minds helping people that need it. But most of the people I know are just trying to feed and clothe themselves and their family. They get a little perturbed when they are forced to kick in to support some artist that paints themselves brown, lays down in a corner, takes a picture and calls their masterpiece "the fecal position". The days of taking our money at the point of a gun and expecting to be re-elected are over.

1- I read zooks research and i wonder if some staffer inserted some of those things or wether the originators WANTED those things in there i personally have a problem with them
2-The bill needs serious revisions,it will get that .with that said there are some fundamentally great things in it
3- we have been paying for others health care for generations. It will not stop anytime soon.We need something that is going to take up the slack for that and yet be fair to all.
4- MEDICAL CARE AND PREVENTION IS COST PROHIBITIVE AS IT STANDS TODAY.
5- THE IDEA HERE I THINK....is to get us to prevention thru maintenance that will in a generation drastically cut cost by having a healthier society,,,,now for some thats a mouthfull .THAT IS A REALISTIC GOAL.......and if it can be achieved will benifite our country,our children and grands.

Wow, now here is some interesting debate! Rooting out the back n forth arguments about one's maturity and sanity, I think that the majority of you out there agree that this bill should be repealed and another plan that is less expensive, less nationalized and more People-friendly should be put in it's place. As long as it is a plan that every single person with a vote has had the chance to read. Now I know that there is no way to make a bill that covers everyone's concerns. If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one---------if a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants them all outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat---------------if a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for EVERYONE.

I was watching it live on FOX (as you'd expect), and when he announced the "Gays in the Military", they panned the cameras onto the Joint Chiefs of staff, and every one of them sat stonefaced while the supporters in the crowd stood and cheered. The brass clearly wasn't happy about it. It was OBVIOUS!
A lot of what the president said seemed to ME anyway, like a re-run of his past 2 "State of the Unions". One thing that particularly irked me was when he talked about this "open-ness to government" thing (transparency), by which we who pay the taxes will KNOW what our money is being used for...............we heard that same message during the campaign. What has changed to make any of us think that somehow it's gonna be different? (although I think and HOPE this new House is going to DEMAND accountability this time.
Obama DID say something that I am the FIRST ONE to APPLAUD..............when he said he's asking the Congress for a five-year spending FREEZE!
IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEBODY IN THAT OVAL OFFICE HAS ADDRESSED THAT!!! The only part of THAT though, that CONCERNS me, is that he emphasized (twice), it would be a DOMESTIC spending freeze...........didn't say anything about "foreign or international". He emphasized DOMESTIC only. Did anybody else catch that? What does THAT mean? I'd have felt a lot better if he'd had said a TOTAL freeze.
They "preached" to US FOREVER about us Americans not trying to live beyond our means............well, let's see if they can "walk the walk" back there.
He was pretty clear about the illegals too........especially the ones that are already here and in school. Lamont, I don't know what you heard from Rep Bachman over the last few days, but they interviewed her a shortwhile after the "State of the Union" last night, and EVERYTHING she said made sense to me, especially the adherence to our Constitution, getting the government out of our lives, stopping the wasteful spending, and electing representatives who LISTEN to to VOTERS!
But she obviously said something recently that riled YOU, though, Bro..........and I gathered last night, from what FOX was saying, that she has also riled some of the folks in the REPUBLICAN party as well.............which to me, might just be a GOOD thing. We still haven't as of yet, cleaned out the rest of OUR thieves. The Tea Parties are Conservative-based, so not ALL "Republicans" align themselves with the movement as Dumbfounded and I discussed the other day.
There are still Republicans in SORE NEED of being thrown OUT, and I would imagine Bachman has rubbed a few of THEM the wrong way. That's just tough. They NEED to go!

I would really like to know that, because she has always claimed to be a "Tea Partier." I have been involved in the movement practically since the beginning, and our movement has nothing to do with segregation, race, or justifying any type of holocaust. If she is claiming to be one of US, she had better NOT be talking about anybody's rights NOT being equal for AMERICAN citizens.
I have marched in the protests and every ONE of them is directed at getting the GOVERNMENT out of our lives, getting the FEDS out of our pockets, SECURING the borders, getting rid of the illegals who continue to drain on our economy (which some might even think THAT constitutes "2nd class citizenry). But it doesn't. They are here ILLEGALLY. PERIOD.

If you toured parts of the old south, I'm sure you WOULD find those who WOULD support segregation again. But as we've ALL been getting older and dying off over these past decades, I think you'll find that those old "holdouts" in NO WAY speaks for the majority of folks out here today.
I think most people realize there are REAL threats to our country today. Man, we are in TROUBLE.....jobs, economy, terrorism, cost of living, home forclosures, etc. This is 2011, it ain't the 40's, 50's or even 60's anymore, and for every old fossil that might be in his frontyard preaching about the "south shall rise again," there are 500 more who only want to government out of their lives. Look around in traffic. There was a time when there was a "Confederate Flag" decal on about every fifth pickup truck. You RARELY see one today, by comparison.
Is all the prejudice gone? Of course not. There's still a little, on MANY sides--------but NONE of it speaks for the majority anymore. There's way too much at stake to be fighting each other anymore, and I think most people understand that today.
Whether you're black, white, blue, green or purple, the greatest threat to ALL of us and our freedoms, are the "terrorists" on Capitol Hill.

Well, like I said, if Bachman is saying that slavery never happened, she ain't one of US, and if she's saying we need to go BACK there, she doesn't speak for US either.
I'm just real concerned about that, because our movement is dedicated PURELY to cleaning out a LONGTIME CORRUPT government and replacing it with DECENT people.
If Bachman is aligning herself with us, only to use the movement to expound on an old agenda that has no place in the 21st century, those on the "right" definitely need to be aware of that.
Those who keep old prejudices alive and continue to grind axes, are the very people who BLOCK any hopes of true progress, so if she's digging up old bones and stirring up crap that doesn't BELONG here anymore.............she doesn't need to be in Congress. And WE need to know that.

Having read her response to the state of the union speech I can't see where Rep Bachman is saying anything that can be attributed to being a racist, however I haven't read her two speeches before that. I know in Iowa she spoke of her respect for the founders of the country. I think I have come to the conclusion that a conservative woman or women scare a lot of people and they seem to be unfairly attacked. I can't imagine how they stand up to some of the things out there. I know Michelle was a foster parent for 20 or more kids, some of them being different races.

Lack of "testoscerone" and "political correctness" have sent nearly SEVENTY THOUSAND of our brothers from Vietnam to Afghanistan....back home in BODYBAGS, while we still "PUSSYFOOT", and cater to everybody else but our own troops.

I think we saw term limits enacted in November. I read all I could find on Bachman and Ellison and find Bachman to have a limited knowledge of history but not a racist by any means. I find Ellison to be a shady character and probably a racist from his own words and actions. Term limits would be the only way to get rid of him, it looks like, as he is in a safe district.
Some of them sure seem to be, but NONE of them would be "safe" if the voters would just start thinking COUNTRY insted of PARTY for once in their lives.
Lamont was talking about so many of these politicians being "out of touch" with the people. And they ARE............FORTY years in office will DO that, yet some of these old crocks are still having to DIE in office before we are finally RID of them, because people in their home states are too blind or stupid to see them for the crooks they ARE------------and vote them out THEMSELVES.
I say that when the president gets no more than two terms MAX..........the rest of them should rate no better.........no matter WHO they are.
If they've done such a "wonderful" job, then they certainly shouldn't MIND coming back OUT here, and LIVING in the same economy they've CREATED!
Just like this "healthcare" fiasco......."If it's "good enough for US", it should certainly be GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM!

But it's up to EACH of us to look BEYOND our instinctive habits, and just go into those booths as AMERICANS and do what's RIGHT!

After i retired from active duty, I flew as a Loadmaster for the BLM, flying teams of firefighters in and out of different states to fight forest fires. A great majority of them were native American crews. On one of MY flights there was almost a fistfight at 30,000 feet between 2 crews of the Blackfoot tribe and 2 teams of the Crow, after we'd gotten airborne and they realized who the other teams were.
With the help of the team leaders, I was able to get everything silenced until we were on the ground and got 'em unloaded. Talking with the team leaders, I found that the two tribes have been at odds with each other over the last CENTURY or so, and NOBODY currently even knew what STARTED it all, "way back when."
They hated each other, because they were TAUGHT to. And if they DIDN'T know each other, these were probably guys who could have gone fishing together, go to each other's homes for bar-b-ques and whatever.
Stupid. In a lot of cases, it's indoctrination ALONE that has kept old feuds going. College kids over recent years have been "taught" that giving "reparations" to Japan for radiation sickness is the "right thing to do."
But you'll never hear anything about "reparations" to US, from Japan, for Pearl Harbor----------without which there'd never have BEEN a "Hiroshima."
Some of the Mexican factions are screaming that WE OWE THEM for stealing all of their land (California & such). I think history will show "PURCHASE"...........but no matter WHAT the deal is...........hey man, whatever happened way back THEN is between OUR great-great grandfathers and THEIRS. I didn't have anything to DO with it and it ain't my friggin' job to "fix" it.

Lamont.....you and I have come a long way since we first started blogging, so the LAST thing I want to do is get anything stirred up, now that we're doing pretty good........but please allow me to show you a perspective through the eyes of the average "paleface", as our native American friends call us.........
In 2011........we're better educated than our dads and grand-dads were. All of us who have been to school know all-so-well what WAS in early America. It was taught to us in school, even if our parents DIDN'T. We don't condone slavery and prejudice, and although it hasn't happened overnight, much HAS been done to correct a bad situation. In the early 1900's, a black person couldn't vote. TODAY a black man is President of the United States. Less than 40 years ago, "Chappie" James was a GENERAL. In the 45 years since Dr King was marching, things HAVE come a long way.
Many think that "Affirmative Action" was an "over-attempt" at compensation, and THAT debate will go on forever............moot point anymore......
But I like to think that the average white guy TODAY in this country is not a racially-prejudiced man. It's considered "old hat", stupid, and certainly non-productive, especially considering the issues today that really DO need our attention, if we're gonna survive as a society and a country.
Poor people come in all colors, lots of "caucasians" out there living on the streets today.
But here is what the white man sees in 2011......stay with me, if you will..........
HE sees the black man doing well, often even BETTER that HE is doing. He sees the black man in the Hollywood movies, making millions in sports, and in the entertainment world. This isn't the sixties, and he sees the black man in the Senate, in the Congress, and in the WHITE HOUSE........
He sees the black man wearing a 3-piece suit, beautiful jewelry and driving a new "Caddy" while HE might be in jeans and a sweatshirt, driving around in a 65 Ford F-100..........and that's STILL just "fine" by HIM.
(I'd rather drive an old Studebaker than I would a new Lincoln.)
And this is GOOD, Lamont. It is finally PROOF to the world that you in fact CAN be anything you want to be in America if you have the inner-drive and desire............and no decent person BEGRUDGES anybody all the success they can achieve.
So........you have to try to understand that when these guys like Al Sharpton, Michael Moore and some of these other libs start beating the drum about discrimination TODAY..........most white folks have a tough time with that in 2011.
They look around and say....."Discrimination?.......WHERE??"
Not that there still might not be some in places..........but it ain't what it WAS! Nowhere close.
No..........we don't think ALL blacks are suddenly rich, wear the diamonds and drive the Caddy's-----------few of US do either-----------(come look at MY driveway sometime).
But reading some of the blogs lately, it seems to me that a lot of guys writing back to ya, don't really comprehend or identify with what you've been saying from time-to-time.
But in a way..........isn't that GOOD?? If they don't understand what you're saying, they're PAST the "age-point" of even THINKING about those 'evils of old."
And isn't that finally some PROGRESS in human behavior?
I understand you to the point that I do.........because I grew up on POTRERO HILL............not BEVERLY HILLS.
But you know..............when ENOUGH people don't know about discrimination.............there won't BE anymore of it.

When I said I understood Lamont bacause I grew up on Potrero Hill, I didn't mean I understood "discrimination." We all got along very well up there, played ball together and a hundred other things.
I understand Lamont in that, he TOO grew up in the same kind of environment (as we've discussed in live conversation), and we BOTH know how things COULD be and SHOULD be, if people would just learn to get along with each other.
My wife & I had lunch with our grand-daughters over at North Elementary last week. the tables were FULL of kids----------all kinds of kids, from any background you choose. They eat together, trade each other a cookie for a banana, maybe a sandwich for a slice of pizza.........
On the schoolground, they play together........
And 55 years ago.........a bunch of US, in raggedy old jeans & t-shirts, holes in tennis shoes, were doing the same thing in a very run-down neighborhood.
Kids are born innocent, and they never asked to be brought into this world in the first place. It is the "adults" ( and I use that word loosely, because I'm not sure I've ever MET an "adult")..............it is the ADULTS who tell the kids what to think, how to act and who to hate.
I've thought of it often.....how I would just give ANYTHING, to be able to be back down the hill, on that old deserted parking lot, playing baseball with Sonny, Randy, Richard, Ponnell, Billy, Wayne, Paco, Randy and Paul.
Of course.............that was BEFORE we grew up, and our worlds started to get stupid.
ZOOK... you have said nothing that i havnt taught especially about children.In the 70's there was a group of us who use to go to strike every sunday we would take any kid in the neiberhood with us.get your swim suit and get in the car.needless to say we were a very multicolored group.Zook the things that were said to us about us and to those children were hatefull to say the least.Some of those children are still here, adults now,and they remember us they talk to me often.I KNOW HOW THEY RAISE THERE CHILDREN.I HAVE SEEN CHANGE i also have seen those who have not changed ,will not change and still impact peoples lives...EXAMPLE there is a rather nice establishment in town that a lot of different people frequent.....not to long ago some people came in and the owner was pointed out,and as loud as he could(perception) ONE OF THE PEOPLE SAYS "that monkey owns this place". now I KNOW THAT FEELING IT HAPPENED TO ME TO MANY TIMES TO GO INTO. I'd be curious to know who told you this was a "white man's town?" He obviously hasn't been to Wally-World or Paul's lately. My friend Joe McNeal got elected MAYOR in a "white man's town", and Barack Obama got elected PRESIDENT in what has often been called a "white man's country."
I would give no credibility to statements like that.
Pre-conceived notions are VERY down-troddening. I remember when my ex-wife & I got divorced 20+years ago and I asked my lawyer about the possibility of getting custody..........he looked straight AT me, and said........"YOU'RE THE WRONG GENDER TO EVEN BEGIN TO BRING THAT UP! YOU'LL BE LUCKY IF YOU GET TO KEEP YOUR BIRTHDAY IN JUDGE -------'s COURT. (That judge is retired now, but some of you out there probably know who it is).
