  • This is a bit off topic but you might enjoy checking this out.

About a year ago, Ben Stine made a movie called Expelled: No Room For Intelligence. It's about how the scientific community in general bullies any scientist who doesn't buy into Darwinism as absolute gospel. I imagine the same thing is happening with global warming. It's a fun movie.

  • Susan's Hubby-you are absolutely correct. Scientist who didn't jump on board with Darwin's THEORY were bullied or lost their careers. This is the same. Global warming was a theory and suddenly the whole world has to think it is truth. I have never bought it and with research, anyone can find out for themselves the real reason behind it all. MONEY and POWER. Thanks for the comment.

  • There was strong evidence for global warming at one time. This may have been more a short trend rather than a long term issue. Even small changes in global climate would be disastrous so I can understand that scientists had some concerns. Whether or not that evidence was created by man or not is unknown. It does appear that the issue is losing steam. Climate/weather is one of cycles so it appears that it may have been simply the warmer part of the cycle.

About Darwin, Kim you are dead wrong. Most scientists and non-scientists were heavily critical of Darwin. Anything that put the sanctity of religion in question is still held in contempt. No matter the evidence or theory, the world still wrestles with this very logical and plausible idea. There is considerably more evidence to back up evolution than global warming.

  • From the "news" today:

Historic EPA finding: Greenhouse gases harm humans (AP)

AP - The Obama administration took a major step Monday toward imposing the first federal limits on climate-changing pollution from cars, power plants and factories, declaring there was compelling scientific evidence that global warming from manmade greenhouse gases endangers Americans' health.

Geez, ya think? Could he not have remained in the US to learn/figure this out. WOW!!! How long have we known this yet today it is a shock or surprise and something new. I wonder how much it costs to reinvent the wheel. (sarcastic font on this one)

  • Global warming is not predicated on the idea that every city, state, country, time zone will see a perpetual heat wave. The idea being that very small changes on average over an extended amount of time produce these effects that we see in movies. I love to bring up that Greenland has seen its usable land area go from 100 sq. miles to over 900 and listen to how people attempt to explain it. I dont fully believe it exists (or existed) because of human activities but looking the other way in the face of revelations such as Greenland is comical.

  • As for the jobless rate, there is nothing that anyone can do to return the unemployment back to where it was 3 years ago. Politicians especially have little power over this. The New Deal was not a panacaea. It helped but was largely window dressing.

Speeches and stimulus plans don't change society's core behavior towards spending, risk, and international trade. They may motivate some people for a week or so but largely they are driven by self interest and care not about the larger picture. Any policies or actions taken in the economic spectrum take years to show any signs of progress. The great depression did not happen overnight and the solution was not instant either.

There is no denying that for a period of time there was a warming trend. Trend does not mean absolute. Now has that time ended. It may have and it may have not.

  • There is a lot that we could do regarding unemployment. We could stop importing. We could give unions less power and bring industry back to the US. We could discourage more NAFTA like legislation. Stop spending money on crap from China and other places. If we do not but it...they will not import it. Law of supply/demand. Like heck there is nothing we can do. It is thinking like that that has us where we are today.

  • Yes Mike...you like all of the Dems in Congress being told to report to the White House to meet with Obama himself? Liked that huh? When this all blows up in their faces the Dems will still blame the other side even when they were not even there. It is always the fault of another. No accountability. They are all crooks. And why all of the "secret" or "invitation only" meetings? It is all a bunch of crap.

  • the unemployment rate sitting at 3% just three years ago was an aberration. It was not sustainable. It was financed largely on credit. Being delusional enough to think that a politician can reverse the recession and return the economy to that level in just four years is a fallacy. I am realistic enough to know that it takes time as well as initiative to make these things happen.

The measures that you speak of would be exceedingly complex to fully root out. I would agree with them but those are beyond the scope of a politician. No matter how grand the speech, society still is driven by self-interest and that cant be legislated away.

I try to buy local but there comes a point when the price tag dictates choice. Most Americans think with their wallet. That inherently pushes out higher priced and sometimes higher quality domestic goods
