  • I want a better President. Just a regular guy who knows what it is like to really work for a living. Someone who has had their pay cut but hours increased. Someone who does the right thing and will stand up for the things he/she believes in no matter the cost. Some integrity would be nice as well (a lot of backbone if you will). A person who knows what a budget is----a real budget that is. If you only have a million dollars to spend...than that is ALL you spend. Just because you can print money does not mean you should or that is a way to pay the bills.

We need to get back to the basics! No healthcare plan until the budget is balanced. No more "government" (taxpayer) programs until our (the debt of Congress/the President(s)) debt is paid off. No more credit for Congress and hair brained ideas/wants when we cannot pay for it. That is how it works for those of us REAL people out there and our Government should be NO different.

I want the spending to stop. I want the banks to lower my interest rates back down to what they were when I signed on. I want the jobs that were promised that have yet to be (and I am sure never will be). I want our current Congress replaced with honest, hard working, "regular" Joe and Jane. I want the banks who took money from ME to live up to their agreements. I want the bailouts to stop because nobody is helping US and they are screwing all of us. I want the huge checks/pay/bonus bucks to stop to CEO's who have done a really crappy job (which is why they need bailouts). I want honesty in Government and some integrity with a lot of accountability to the people. No more travel to other countries on OUR dime. OUR country is in crisis----IF YOU CANNOT FIX US...HOW IN THE HECK CAN YOU "FIX" ANYBODY ELSE. Charity begins at home. Spend more time in the office here working on our problems and to HECK with the UN and the rest of that CRAP!

I hope these shoes Kim speaks of work! Because so far, I am in the same place as 10 minutes ago. Maybe Nancy could use some new red shoes to wear on that jet we bought her and pay for her to use. Obama said Chrysler and GM should give up their jets...SO SHOULD HE AND NANCY. Enough is enough. This is bull. All of it.

Ethics investigation! It should not be just 30 of them----IT SHOULD BE ALL OF THEM!!!!!!

What a joke. Ethics in our Congress and other elected officials in DC.

  • They must have included in that number the record number of people (jobs created) to "support" Obama (which Kim has done a story or 2 on) and all of the people hired to "support" the Mrs. That is not job creation, it is fraud against those of us that pay taxes. Makes me want to throw up frankly.

  • Mr. Dave Thompson with your links! I have never read anything like that, comparing the Oz to politics. I just happen to love the story and when I was writing the previous blog about who is the power behind Obama, it just came to me. I could see the OZ huge face and the curtain. That story is a wonderful tale. Once I thought about it more, it just seemed to fit. How we are dazzled by illusions. How we don't realize how wonderful something is until it is gone. I think everyone can relate to the story so I thought it would get people thinking about home and what that means. I wanted to inspire us all to appreciate and see that we are the great and powerful in our own lives. That we can find our way back home. I didn't know that others made it a intellectual thing-politics and OZ. Actually, I should feel complimented that you would think I was so smart. Really, it just grew as I wrote it and I didn't even post the whole thing, for space sake. Did you not like the story? Or were you so caught up in trying to figure out what I was saying that you missed what the story was saying to you? Relax, dude. Just enjoy the tale and allow yourself to dream about home.

I read about the Political Interpretations of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz over 25 years ago in an article in The Missoulian, the daily newspaper in Missoula, Montana. I thought it was interesting and over the years I'd looked for similar articles and was never lucky enough to find one. Your post reminded me of the original article and yesterday I was fortunate enough to find that link. Until I had read that article in the Missoulian, I had never thought of the WWofOZ as a political statement. I appreciate the contrasts between the political interpretations and the more traditional interpretation of the story. Particularly considering how the political interpretations offer an insight into Baum's harsh criticism of many of the institutions of his day, and how the more popular interpretation is to encourage us to appreciate that which we have! Funny how things are interpreted isn't it dude?

OM, why did you borrow money from or deposit money with your bank? Why do you feel the federal government need to get involved in your business now? The state government is there to render aid if you feel you've been defrauded. Just call the Idaho Attorney General and make your case clear. It works. Really. As far as jobs go, we have to ask ourselves the basic question, What marketable skills do I have to offer an employer? Have I attempted to continue devoloping skills that would benefit a competetive employer in order to secure and maintain a position in today's dynamic work environment? We can't expect to kick back and remain securely employed in a stagnant industry that has no competitors. I understand there may be opportunities in the nuclear power and alternative energy industries in the local area. These may not be palatable options, but considering the other industry that the area has been able to lure in over, say, the last quarter century (where can a guy get a hamburger or a pizza or a sub, or buy some cheap Chinese made goods for a buck in this town?) we may have to leave our oasis.

bazookaman, can you provide us with any verifiable examples of achievers who brought a halt to their achieving ways because they had their wealth taken from them and given to bums?

At some level it is a contradiction for anyone who determines a career path based on their estimation of the amount of taxes they'll have to pay the government, rather than basing their decision on what they truly want to do in their life's work.

YES---the Nazis. They took art, money, jewels, gold teeth (fillings) and THEIR (all of the people who went to the camps/were killed that is) wealth and it was given to "bums" and killers. How was that for an example "Mr. Thompson?" Let us see how you twist that to fit your needs.

I think you've twisted history quite well. In fact, I hope you were sitting down when you wrote that drivel. You've got so many twists in that response you're probably quite dizzy. Don't tip over!

OM, do you have any idea how much that stings?!

Further up the list of comments on this post, back on Saturday, there was a comment posted by bazookaman that states, "There is little INCENTIVE for ANYBODY to bust their butt "developing skills that benefit industry", when you're just gonna get penalized for it anyway.

Based on that comment, my question asked for examples of "achievers who brought a halt to their achieving ways."

To simplify, I'd like to read of someone who, of their own volition, has taken advantage of the blessings of liberty and passed up a job promotion simply because they'd pay more taxes. Or, someone who completely gave up, quit, pursuit of their life's successful and promising work based solely on their estimation of the amount their tax would be if they continued to prosper.

The people the Nazi's shipped like cattle in boxcars to camps where they were imprisoned, enslaved and murdered had no opportunity to alter their fate. In Germany, they were the victims of systemic discrimination, lacking legal recourse and were not allowed to own property or businesses.

The victims of the Nazi's most certainly did not willingly give up their lifes work.

We all know mass murder has been committed by men who were Nazi's, and by socialists and communists, etc. You and others on this blog have demonstrated a tedious propensity to invoke emotional memories of these horrors, making sophomoric attempts to draw superficial parallels between the issues we face today with the issues faced by the victims of mass murderers.

We are not, by any stretch of the imagination, faced with the situation as those murdered by the Nazi's.

Those of you who rely on such assinine comparisons to further your "arguments" disrespect the memory of every victim of the camps.

Face it, your comparison is twisted.

Now, get back to work on that rocket!

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 9:13 PM
  • Having a discussion about the horrible things that happened to millions of people and seeing what were the warning signs is not disrespecting those victims. Learning from the evil mistakes of the past is not in any way a wrong thing to do. Forgetting them and what they had to suffer would be wrong. Ignoring simple signs in order to prevent the possibility of a repeat is ignorant. Studying the ease in which people were caught up in hysterical evil is important to discovering ways to guard yourselves against becoming another victim. History teaches us. It is a game of knowledge or a game of chance. Is it a game of Risk? I don't think this is a game. I believe that we must look at the past in order to survive the future.

I know that we don't want to think that there are any warning signs that would be similar to the past but the fact remains that if we don't pay attention, then our freedoms will be taken a moment at a time. Freedoms that we have taken for granted so long that we barely noticed when we've been stripped of them. Now I will agree that the possibility of Americans being overthrown to the degree of the German or Russian people, but it is assinine to pretend that we are so "enlightened" that it could never happen to some degree here. No, it is far better to turn away from horror with denial and laughter. That is the way to protect a nation from it's downfall. Look away! Keep saying that I am paranoid or crazy or whatever you need to tell yourself. My bringing up these points serves the purpose intended. Thanks for playing the history game. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. These messages will self-destruct in 5...4...3...2...1.

  • You have to be smart enough and open enough to see it. It is all right under our noses and still many are blind and stupid and say it is not going on (re: Mike's last post and Kim's blogs on these topics). Our Government has more than 80% ownership in AIG. Why? Because of bailouts. Our Government feels the "need" to dictate who will run a company, how much they will be paid and when. If a company does not play by the rules set up by Obama---well, you know the story. Our Government handed out, without rules, regulations, checks/balances RECORD amounts of money to SAVE JOBS! Wow. That worked out well. They took the money and ran and laughed all the way to their bonus check lines. Now "healthcare reform." If you do not "play along" you will be fined.

America, land of the free? Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves right now.

I am sure Dave will find a nice cut/paste to further explain his ignorance and assinine, factless opinions. Here is one for you Mr. Dave. I am a Jew. I lost family in those camps. I got to hear first hand from my aunt and her husband (who survived) what the WARNING signs were BEFORE they were loaded up. It did NOT happen over night and half the world WATCHED/ALLOWED it to happen. Please spare me your version of history. It is people like you that make the world what it is today---a "new" history lesson that is. As time goes by, lessons are but a memory. History does indeed repeat and it is going on now. Why do you suppose "OUR" Government is building these camps all over the US? Please Dave, your take on things because I need a really good laugh today. I do not have enough stupid people to deal with in my life without your back asswards/warped, cut/paste take on things.

    Back to my rocket now.

  • For Dave! Please tell me how this is ANY different than what the Nazis did? All of those people who were rounded up thought it would NEVER happen and that their Government and military would protect them. Please tell me how the situations of TODAY are ANY DIFFERENT than the crimes which we now refer to as "history." Camps for people displaced by disaster! Please. These camps are in place for 1 reason and 1 reason only---to house Americans who REFUSE to "get with the program" as dictated by the crooks in DC. Many Americans will find themselves "relocated" when they refuse to give up their guns. Others will find themselves in these camps when they do not join on for healthcare. Funny how Obama finds these "camps" so disgusting for his people but for the AMERICANS---IT IS A-OKAY!!!!! Talk about disgusting. Wise up already Dave.

    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext...

Not like Mike has not posted this before. This lays out the plan for these "emergency" camps. The fine print is what tells the tale because they can/will be used for anything the Government sees fit to use them for. Funny how these FEMA Camps have not been used for the most recent FEMA disasters.

OM, before we get sidetracked, provide us with a review of the factual errors in the comment I provided on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 9:13 PM.

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Thu, Nov 5, 2009, at 11:40 AM
  • Gee Dave, I thought that was just what I had done. As far as any of your "factual errors" are concerned---how do your opinions become "fact?"

As far as the acts of the Nazi party...they did not happen over night! Things were going on prior. Hitler did not just walk in and take over 1 day. He had a plan, filled with promises, etc. and took over. He was a good speaker. Told the people what they wanted or needed to hear at the time in order to do what HE WANTED TO DO. What "they" tell us and what "they" do are normally 2 different things.

As far as your opinions being "factual," I will differ with you on YOUR opinion for the following reasons, which are factaul and based on actual history, as opposed to my opinion.

First. People were in jails (before camps were constructed) under Nazi control as early as 1939 for being PI and not of the "perfect" race (hair color was wrong, too young, eye color wrong, "looked Jewish," etc.) or speaking out against their government or what was going on. There were Mormons, Catholics, Jews, etc. in these jails. Then the camps were constructed because they (the camps) could house more PI/less than "perfect" people than any jail. People were held there for years if they were able to survive. And how about those gas chambers or long lines of people shot to death just because of who they were or what they said or how they looked! All of this went on as bordering lands watched. These people had their rights erroded over time---not in 1 day. I am sure many expected their government to stand up for them and do what was right. Did it happen? Heck no! So, people were taken to these camps with the promise of a "better life." In these camps they were starved, beaten, raped, molested, etc. IN THE NAME OF A "BETTER LIFE."

Are you really too stupid to see how we live, much the same way? Are you really that stupid Dave? Our "rights" are being erroded daily in the name of "A BETTER LIFE." Who is it better for I demand to know?!?!

Do you really think these camps are being built/maintained to house illegals? Really?!?! Or to house people displaced due to natural disasters? Really? People who lived through Katrina really need to be kept behind 15 foot fences with razor wire on top and armed guards. Are these Americans now animals or a dnager because they have no home? NO! Common sense Dave at some point must prevail with you. As for my "twisted" (your word) take on things and the fact that I dare to compare the events of WWII to today...I thank my lucky stars that there are not more people on this planet who think like you. Do you also think that your children should not be taught about the holocaust because it was too ugly? I went to a school like that (in a Chicago suburb), which is why I ask.

How was that for you Dave? Not good enough I am sure. Opinions are NOT facts Dave and history does AND WILL repeat itself because a memory fades over time and the people who lived it die. Keep those rose colored glasses on. The "wackadoos" and "twisted" will protect you when the time comes. Oh wait! You will be with them. Sorry, my error. Once again, our founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves. Change is a given but not like this. I know, I know---it is all for a "better life" but for who?

If you're sure it's not good enough, you're right. You failed to provide us with a review of the factual errors in the comment I provided on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 9:13 PM.

To help you out, I've extracted the facts for you.

1.) The people the Nazi's shipped like cattle in boxcars to camps where they were imprisoned, enslaved and murdered had no opportunity to alter their fate. In Germany, they were the victims of systemic discrimination, lacking legal recourse and were not allowed to own property or businesses.

2.) The victims of the Nazi's most certainly did not willingly give up their lifes work.

3.) We all know mass murder has been committed by men who were Nazi's, and by socialists and communists, etc.

Now, do you dispute these facts?

  • OM: I love your passion. I love the fact that even though it would be so much easier to laugh and say that it just couldn't happen here, you choose to look at everything and pay attention. What keeps coming to my mind is the old saying, The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I certainly think this applies to the healthcare and other policies being thrust upon us in the name of "helping" others. Thanks so much for reading what I write and taking the time to comment. God bless us, everyone!

-- Posted by kimkovac on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 6:43 AM
  • Kim:

I have never met you (I have met your husband) and I hope that one day I will have that chance. Keep up your good works gal as many of us love what you write and your "passion" for YOUR America. You make us think, research, digest and think some more (some of us anyway).

    Mike:

Right on track my friend. Take care today and watch your back.

    Dave:

Let me try again in a MORE simple way for you so that you might get it (probably not but here it goes). In life, people make choices. Some of those choices are good and some of those choices are bad. We are only human and human beings make mistakes. With that said, the events of WWII/the holocaust DID NOT happen over night. That puzzle, if you will, had been laid out over a period of years. People could see the changes being made and spoke out! The "problem" was that the Government had the upper hand (so to speak) and the people speaking out...were out numbered and over powered. It was a very well laid out plan that was very well thought out WELL in advance. Nothing came on over night---changes were NOT instant (FAR FROM IT).

So to say that these people had "no opportunity to alter their fate" is not factual.

Then you say (which is once again, in part, less than factual):

"In Germany, they were the victims of systemic discrimination, lacking legal recourse and were not allowed to own property or businesses."

Many of the people sent to those camps were very wealthy. They owned property and businesses. They had vast art collections and were some of the best jewelers in the country/Europe. Many were also very well educated---doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc.

What ALL of these people lacked dearest Dave was a GOVERNMENT WITH A BACKBONE! The GOVERNMENT and PEOPLE NOT (I REPEAT NOT) in those camps could have done something. Many a country stood by and WATCHED as MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of people were put to death with gas, starved, beaten or shot to death. PEOPLE and NATIONS ALLOWED it to happen. There were pictures. It was NOT a secret. It went on for YEARS before a country with any power came in and said ENOUGH.

So...had people stood up for their rights and not bought into all of the BS ("a better life/for your own good"), things would have been very different. So please, once again, spare me the "lashing" over how dare I compare what is going on now to the holocaust. I have been told I was wrong by far better than you I am sure.

So, more simple terms for you Dave. Their are "prison camps" being constructed on US soil---to house AMERICANS!!!! It is in print and our own Government admits this. Some are even OPERATIONAL with staff! ADMITS IT DAVE!!! They/OUR Government are 1 by 1 taking away our rights...right under our noses. They/OUR Government are taxing us to death IN THE NAME OF A "BETTER LIFE." So once again Dave---how is this---the acts of today---ANY different than those in history? We are ALLOWING our corrupt, criminal Government to errode our rights away 1 by 1. ALLOWING IT!! Why? Because "IT" will NEVER HAPPEN TO US! Well Dave, it is HAPPENING to us because of millions of people just like YOU. The "it will never happen to us" clan.

And Dave, before you or anybody else attempts to say something like I (OM) blame the people who "went" with the Nazis to their death camps let me just say that was NOT what I said. I BLAME the people who ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN AND DID NOTHING!!! I BLAME their Government who said it was all for a "better life" and that those people would be safe and taken care of. I BLAME ALL of the people who said "it will never happen to us." Now, here we are LESS than 100 years later---AND WE ARE GOING TO DO IT AGAIN but this time on US soil and WE, the tax payers have PAID FOR IT. What a proud day.

I am Jewish. I was born Jewish. I will die Jewish and MY Government will NEVER take me to a camp because my views do not match theirs or my views/opinions are not PC. I will not go quietly and I will not ALLOW my Government to take my rights away without a fight. Over my cold, gun holding/owning, dead body. I know from my aunt and uncle's memory how this is going to play out if we continue down the road we are on. Healthcare reform to make my life better! Please! I already pay for all of the other Government programs that do not work in the name of a "better life."

Wake up Dave. Our own Government is "paving that road to hell with their good intentions" right under your nose and YOU still REFUSE to see what is going on. Good luck with that. I only hope a majority of the world is smarter than you because if not...we are in some real trouble.

Off to my "rocket" in the name of a "better life." My time spent on "stupid" is up for today and their is a loss of IQ points for any "debate" with Dave who has never had an original thought yet. To everyone else, enjoy your day and stay dry.

Yes, Lou Dobbs graduated from Minico I beleive in 1967. He actually was the speaker at my graduation when I went to Minico. A very well spoken man who seems to rememeber where he came from

Maybe Fox news can find a spot for him. Be a better fit. With Lou leaving CNN, it is now the most left wing news network on the air. Too bad MSNBC!

  • Not to be a know-it-all but Hitler's regime owes its life to the crushing poverty brought on Kaiser Wilhelms poor decision-making and Germany not getting off the gold standard. If not for the poverty and desperation, the propaganda would have ended up as firewood or used in the bathroom.

  • Exactly, Twil. Poverty and desperation are perfect situations that lead people to ignore things, accept things they normally wouldn't and do things that they never thought they would. Desperate people will follow the charm of the piper.
