Health Insurance Reform.

Posted Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 9:35 AM

Healthcare Reform changes to Health Insurance Reform. Congress wants to hold insurance companies accountable. Max Baucus announced his bill for healthcare. It will cost over 800 trillion dollars over a 10 yr. period but promises that it will be paid for with $349 billion in new taxes and fees and $507 billion in cuts to government health programs. The plan would impose $93 billion in fees on insurance companies, drugmakers and other sectors of the health-care industry. And it would collect nearly $50 billion in penalties from people who do not obtain health insurance and employers who do not offer their workers affordable options for coverage. (Robbing those who have to hand to those who have not) Unfortunately, I couldn't find the actual bill to read so here are the major points being reported.

This plan promises that every American can find affordable insurance that can never be taken away. Basically, it mandates that the insurance company must offer the plan to a person regardless of pre-existing conditions and as long as the person pays the premium.

Max Baucus said, "It shifts the focus to quality of care provided not quantity of services provided." It would set up a system of non-profit Consumer-owned cooperatives to compete with insurance companies.

Is it gov't run? No. The bill allows nonprofit cooperatives to offer alternatives to insurance company plans through exchanges.

Does it have an individual mandate? Yes. Individuals must purchase insurance or pay a penalty based on income (up to $950 per year for individuals and $3,800 per year for families).

Does it have an employer mandate? Well, sort of but No, the bill would not require employers to offer health insurance. But effective Jan. 1, 2013, all employers with more than 50 employees who do not offer coverage would have to reimburse the government for each full-time employee receiving a health-care affordability tax credit in the exchange.

Is there Medicaid expansion? yes, over everyone earning under 133 percent of the federal poverty level.

Will there be an insurance subsidy? Yes but not until 2013, tax credits would be available on a sliding scale for individuals and families who earn up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level.

I will keep looking for the actual bill documents to read it for myself. (For those keeping track-off work today-using home laptop-using my own time. Thanks)

I found the actual document. It is called America's Healthy Future Act of 2009. So go to opencongress.org and you can download a copy. I don't have time to read it today, but I will after I have arrived in Salem, OR later today. Until then, I'm others will read it and I will look forward to comments.

I don't care for this Bill!

Hey.......remember Obama's campaign promises NOT to increase taxes for those making $250,000 or less?

He's gonna try to hammer it out of the insurance companies in fines, who will IN TURN raise OUR rates for their coverage, and if we don't choose something (including the GOVERNMENT'S healthcare), WE get fined up to $3800.00...............

But that's not REALLY the same as "raising our taxes" is it?

Smooth-talkin' devil, ain't he!

One thought. Let's suppose an average citizen from Glenns Ferry making decent income is fired on December 26 of 201x. Being that this will be a payment and not an additional tax (or at least that is what current literature tells us), what if this person is penniless. What are they going to do, throw this person in jail? What is going to the method of enforcement? It seems like a waste of resources to police something like this.

Good question.

IRS will be the way they will get what you have. They will have the IRS enforce penalties.

I think the IRS' days are numbered, and I think a lot of THEM know it as well.

These tea parties are only the opening shot.

Wouldn't that be nice.

Not quite the scenario I had previously thought it would be, though.

I'd always foreseen a gradual build-up, but this administration has forced a definite speed-up in the process. So much is happening so quickly, but the people ARE wide awake now, and I believe there are more than enough of us who HAVE seen the handwriting on the wall since the Clinton days.

We can "thank" Al Gore, who's "invention of the internet" has made it possible for all the cross-communication between modern day patriots and their organizations to prepare and stay ahead of the game.

We also owe CONGRESS a certain amount of appreciation. Anti-gun as a lot of them are, they are STILL the Congress, and cannot get ANYTHING done in a timely manner, which has allowed even the "wait and see-ers" out here ample time to stock up and be ready.

The Dems can pass all the confiscation bills they want. Fortunately, they weren't smart enough to go after our guns FIRST, before trying to destroy the rest of our Constitution and alert everybody they were looking to change this entire country.

Americans are mad as hell now. There is NO WAY I would be a Federal Agent walking up somebody's driveway thinking "confiscation." They might get the FIRST guy in a town, but the phones would be ringing EVERYWHERE shortly thereafter, and ALL would be alerted. House-by-house, you never know for sure who lives there, and what they might have.

They also won't be able to depend on support from local police, who by and large are Pro-American.

The IRS is ALREADY feeling it, as every year, over a million MORE taxpayers are no longer filing returns and revenues are dropping significantly.

Strange as it may seem, a lot of people are doing their homework, and have had enough of working themselves to death, while the government continues to toss money to the wind and turn around looking for more.

Into each life, there is a POINT, Skeeter, where to a family member, a supervisor, an obnoxious neighbor, etc, we all finally stop and say "ENOUGH"

When enough people in a NATION get robbed and shoved aside, when their very liberties are starting to go away, and their country is being pulled out from under them by an over-controlling government, when MILLIONS start yelling "ENOUGH".......................

We're gonna see "change" alright, but not the kind of "change" Obama has in mind!

Our founding fathers would highly approve.

I've lived in Mtn Home for over 20 years. I love my city and my country. Since I am a writer, my decision to blog here seemed appropriate. I enjoy acting so I've been blessed with the opportunity to work on some independent films and with Prairie Dog Productions and Bogus Creek Ranch. I hope that something I have to write about has some value for others or just amuses someone.
