Stupidity kicked my butt and it hurt bad
After a few glasses of Jack and Coke I'm feeling a bit better now and with albeit a slight glimmer of hope of the Mountain Home media werx. No promises but I got called by an associate who said why let a few well I'll let you fill that in, kill what could be for the town. Which I will say right here and now, even if I did base the radio half of the media werx in Mountain Home, our media werx is not to serve any town, Mountain Home, nor Glenns Ferry or any community except that one that runs just outside both towns called I-84, and the residents thereof , those being the American Trucker.
Sadly when XM and Sirius, Satellite went on the air the vast majority of the overnight trucker style radio networks and shows pretty much died. Its worse now that both XM and Sirius merged.
Even before that most overnight trucker programs and such except for one pirate station in Hagerman(ours) there was nothing out there talking trucker, playing the right music at the right time and even fewer tha were totally live 24-7/365.
So then the Knytes-of-Anarchy a group loosley based on two TV shows as far as image, those being the Dukes-of-Hazzard and Sons-of-Anarchy, whose main mission in life is to preserve the old school lifestyle and albeit tainted trucker image.
Serving those who deliver this nation every day. The American Trucker.
We decided to take matters into our own hands once again to bring live trucker radio to the radios of those truckers rolling over our nearby Interstate, I-84.
There are some corporate sponsors out there just waiting for us to turn the key on the ignition to bring Dixie Diesel Trucker Radio back to life in all its glory of both the past as well as into the future.
Due to a new FCC ruling that says, that if there is a transmitter there needs to be a studio. No more remote stations allowed. So for our group to be on air where it counts everywhere we as a group plan on putting up a red/white stick with that big red light on top has to have a studio as well as at least two on air people there along with at least one engineer.
Back in 1975 shortly after the RoadMasters Truckers Association was born out of a small cb radio club in both Hagerman underwritten by the national 4-H Clubs of America it was one of our projects to put a truckers radio station up.
We did but it was a bootlegged station at best. But it drove home the purpose and (no pun intended) Delivered.
However the point here is, in 1978 when I got my tow truck and even though it was small and as many called it a baby truck, still it is a commercial truck. As such I became a tow trucker and felt that I could be the driver of a radio gig for truckers. But I gave a promise to the then RoadMasters now the Knytes-of-Anarchy, that I would never leave the cab of the truck to be a trucking radio personality, as I did not want to be a phoney at least on the air and in the view of those who tuned in , that being long haul over the road truckers.
Then it came my thoughts of style came into play, and I thought if it worked for Howard Stern and such it would work for me, get a female co-host. Howard had Robin and I thought I should too. But where in Mountain Home do you find a female that is old enough, mature enough, an stable enough to co-host on a rather rebel attitude radio show for truckers, and her know as much about trucking as well as going towing as I did. More over duplicate that 3 more times with 3 other male hosts?
Good question huh?
Well you recruit, train and plug in interns. Boise State has one of the only radio and TV media programs in the area. Not a 4 year communications program, but a VO-Tech style program that teaches the basics of running an audio board, vocal skills etc.
Problem is Boise and Ada County do not hav available channels for a new station, but the lower valley of Elmore County, western Twin Falls County and Power County Idaho do.
So one builds the main studio operations in Boise, puts the stick in either Glenns Ferry or Hammett, with a studio, and transmitter, then one in say Buhl, and the last in or very near American Falls. Network the stations via Internet, satellite and microwave link and have not just one station but an entire network following the big Interstate state wide, delivering nws, weather, road conditions and entertaining truckers.
As far as Mountain Home we will see.
But who knows.
But I let my stupidity nearly kick my butt last night and while there is no excuse for it, instead of satisfying a very few that can't see forest for the trees, I'm even more committed to making this thing go, despite them.
