Let's Go To The Videotape (MLB Instant Replay)

Posted Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at 3:19 PM

Instant Replay-Something that may considered a burden in professional sports, but if it is such a burden why is it used in the NFL, the NBA and the NHL. I am all for instant replay, it is a benefit to professional sports.

One sport that needs to get with the program is Major League Baseball. Over the last few weeks, there have been several home runs, that have been either called wrong or changed from home runs to base hits.

The home run is a vital part to America's Pasttime, and we have to bank on the word of a man standing 100-200 feet away on whether a ball that ricocheted off a foul pole, bounced off the top of a wall or off some goof trying to interfere is a home run.

I'm not saying give each manager a challenge per inning, but give a manager one replay challenge per game, I know it's somewhat similar to how the NFL does it, but if anybody else has any better ideas, I'm listening.

Let's be real, umpires are not the quickest people in the world, they tend to slip up and make mistakes, but in crucial situations, have a backup plan, if the four or five umpires on the field can't come to a decision then go to the videotape.
