  • Mike:

I am glad that you made it home safe and it is great that you had a good time. I am 37 years old and my father was in the war (with you). He has said the same things that you do. Thank you for your service and your American spirit. I am glad that you are back. Thank you for checking in with us and telling us about Reno.

  • Mike:

He never talked about it. He was there in 67 and 68. Since he never wanted to talk about it, I never really asked about it. I do know that he wanted to go there and signed up to go while he was in college (he was not an officer). I have some home video of his time there but that is it. Sorry I was not more help.

  • Mike, he was a Marine. He talked about the soda that was stored in huge tanks that they drank warm/hot because there was no ice. I have video of him on tanks (the tanks were in the water) with the guys romping in the water with their guns. He spent a lot of time in the air with a gun (or 2). He also talked about the jungle always being on fire and the planes that dropped the chemicals and how when it got on the skin it burned like heck. He talked about the jungle rot on his feet and said they were never right after that and he always had trouble from then on with his feet. That was about all that he said. His best friend was killed there and I think that is a large part of why he never talked about it.

From the video can I figure out what "company" he was in?

Have a good night and take care.

  • My dad is still alive but I am not in contact with him. He lives in Illinois with his wife.

You probably would have found him interesting. He liked to take pictures and movies of what went on there and he had a ton of both. It was some pretty cool stuff.
