Scam Savvy Seniors: Empowering Our Community Against Fraud
In today's digital age, scams targeting seniors have become increasingly sophisticated and prevalent. As the Tech Ed Program Manager for LEARN-Lifelong Education and Aging Resource Network, I'm excited to announce our upcoming "Scam Savvy Seniors" event, designed to equip our older adults with essential knowledge and tools to protect themselves from fraud.
On Wednesday, August 28, from 10:00am to 11:15am, LEARN will partner with the Mountain Home Public Library to present this free, informative session. We'll cover a range of crucial topics, including common types of scams (online, phone, and mail fraud), red flags to watch out for, practical prevention strategies, and reporting procedures.
Our goal is clear: to empower our older residents with the information they need to safeguard themselves and their loved ones from financial fraud and identity theft. The event will feature a comprehensive presentation followed by a Q&A session, allowing attendees to address their specific concerns.
We're also thrilled to have a representative from the Mountain Home Police Department joining us. They'll be on hand to answer questions and provide valuable resources on fraud prevention and reporting, adding an extra layer of expertise to our event.
Attendees will receive detailed handouts summarizing key points and listing both local and national resources for ongoing support. This take-home material will serve as a helpful reference long after the event concludes.
I cannot stress enough how crucial this knowledge is in our current climate. As scams continue to evolve, staying informed is our best defense. I encourage all seniors and their family members to join us for this important event.
The "Scam Savvy Seniors" presentation will take place at the Mountain Home Public Library, located at 7790 North 10th East, Mountain Home, ID. Admission is free, but space may be limited.
