Mildred (Milly) Deloris Whitted, age 89, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at her home in Bruneau. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Rimrock Senior Center in Grand View. There will be a potluck lunch following the service.

Please bring a dish to share. Arrangements were under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Milly was born April 3, 1933, in Marsing, Idaho. She was the first child of six born to George and Lenna Brewer. She grew up caring for her siblings and helping her mom with work around the house. She also babysat, was a theater usher, and worked at the first Albertson’s store.

The second semester of her senior year, Milly moved to Grand View with some friends. There she was set up on a blind date and met Johnnie Paul (J.P.) Whitted. They married June 18, 1951, and spent a week camping for their honeymoon.

They lived on her in-law’s farm in Grand View until putting in 160 acres of their own under the Desert Entry Act. They called their farm Whispering Hills Ranch. Milly spent her time raising their five children, two grandchildren, and hosting over 200 foster kids and boys in trouble. She helped on the farm moving sprinkler pipe, swathing, running for parts, and feeding all the farm crew. She also spent some time working at ESI as a guard. Milly was always full of adventure and enjoyed times of backpacking, camping, fishing, rafting, snowmobiling, traveling, and restaurants with atmosphere. Her home was always open, and many family gatherings were held there.

After J.P. passed away in 2005, Milly took in 25 exchange students from around the world and continued traveling and having adventures with them. Some of her favorite places to go were Castle Creek, Sun Valley, Galena Summit, and Las Vegas. She always kept her house decorated for the season and enjoyed hosting the Red Hat Christmas party every year. She enjoyed reading and sewing, and in her later years she loved to play Scrabble with anyone who stopped by. She lived at Whispering Hills Ranch for 55 years until November 2022, when she moved near her daughter, Holly, in Bruneau.

Milly was always kind and enjoyed a good laugh. She was a mother to many, opening her home to those in need. Family and friends always received a warm welcome, and she was always available to listen when you needed someone to talk to. She was loved by all around her, and although she will be greatly missed, we cherish all the memories we made together.

Milly is survived by her children: J. R. (Dianna) Whitted, Dan Whitted, Heidi Whitted, Craig (Sheilla) Whitted, and Holly (Charley) Hutton, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
