Mountain Home School Board Meeting - 12.20.22

Tuesday, December 27, 2022

The Mountain Home School District held their monthly board meeting on Tuesday the 20th. After unanimously approving the consent agenda, Superintendent Gilbert gave a brief literacy report highlighting the work of students and staff district-wide being conducted to bring students closer to at or above their grade reading level.

After this, Mr. Gilbert gave a thorough report of bullying district-wide in response to claims of a sharp increase of bullying in Mountain Home schools. His remarks were accompanied by data laid out in a spreadsheet detailing the number of reported instances of bullying, slated next to the number of those instances that were confirmed as bullying. The numbers shown appeared to make the claim that the number of reported instances of bullying far outnumbers the number of actual instances of bullying. Mr. Gilbert defined bullying as repeated negative interactions between students, not one-time confrontations.

After discussing the logistics of falling into complacency with Governor Brad Little’s recently established policy banning TikTok on state-issued devices and networks, no decisions were ultimately made, and the meeting came to a close.
