Roger Lee Sherer, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Boise, Id, on August 7, 2021. He was born August 14, 1944 to Frank J. & Orel Montana (Dolly) Sherer in Havre, Montana, and was the oldest of three children. His family moved from Fairfield, Montana, to Mountain Home, in 1953 where they owned and operated the Hub Clothiers for 48 years. Roger graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1963 and the University of Idaho in 1968 with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. Being the only grandson of O.K. and Jessie Olson who homesteaded in Box Elder, Montana, in 1917, he knew that farming was in his future.

Roger married Kathleen Engles of Boise in 1975 and had two beautiful daughters, Jessie in 1980 and Kristin in 1982, but was divorced in 1983 and never remarried.

He was a dedicated son and worked with his dad throughout his life in both retail in early years and in farming later in life while pursuing many other interests as well. He got his private pilot’s license in the 70’s but eventually determined he was safer on the ground. In the early 90’s he got a patent on a Yield Monitor and Load Control for combines and started his own company, ACU-GRAIN, in Great Falls, Mt. He lived LARGE! He loved Montana, his Stetson hats, and ostrich boots! He was creative and out-going, and he had an incredible memory for family history. He loved traveling to trade shows and interacting with people. He could light up a room and bring smiles to every stranger he met.

He was proud of his part in expanding the family farm, but a serious heart condition caused him to sell his share in 2020 and move to Boise to be close to family under the care of his sister and cousins, Nev and Nancy Clune. He was a brave and courageous man; an eternal optimist who loved learning and sharing his knowledge with others. He was a bright light and will truly be missed.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jessica Jo (A.J.) Miller and Kristin Sherer, both of Boise; grandson Branden Avery Jenkins of Boise; his two sisters Suzanne (Dewey) Roberts of Boise and Sallie (Joseph) Thibodeaux of Palm City, Florida.

Due to Covid-19 no local service is planned. Graveside services will be at a future date in Great Falls, Montana, where his ashes will be buried in Highland Cemetery next to his parents and both sets of grandparents. Cremation was under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
