Soil’s Importance in Gardening & Plant Growth

Soil is the medium of all life on Earth, it is what we walk and play upon and establishes the nourishment of all plant life. The importance of soil cannot be overstated when considering planting a backyard garden or growing hundreds of acres for crops. It is probably the most important factor for any backyard gardener or agricultural producer. It is the medium for the plant roots, it holds water and the essential micro- and macronutrients for plant growth.

Soil is the weathered parent material from ancient mountain ranges that has been broken down for millennia, often longer. Soil is composed of three main materials, if you will, sand, silt and clay. These are categorized based on the size, shape and properties of the material.
