Attorney General Lawrence Wasden: Be on the Lookout for COVID-19 Scams

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden is alerting Idaho residents to COVID-19 scams occurring as a result of the global Coronavirus pandemic. These scams focus on multiple areas of consumer vulnerability in an attempt to capitalize on fears resulting from the pandemic.

Common scams may include cyber scams, telephone and text messaging scams, counterfeit product offers, bogus door-to-door tests and virus-related products, and phony charity donation requests.

“I’m asking Idahoans to be vigilant and use common sense as they do business in the midst of the pandemic,” Wasden says. “It’s important that we do not allow scammers to prey on our vulnerabilities.”

Wasden urges consumers to be on guard during online shopping and business interactions, as well as in communications with those offering what seem to be too-good-to-be-true opportunities. For the full story, pick up a copy of the Mountain Home News or click on this link to subscribe to the newspaper's online edition.
