Elections are around the corner, but what’s on the ballot?

Wednesday, August 21, 2019

Want to serve your community or are you worried about the direction things are going? Now is your chance to actively become involved. The deadline to file for an elected position in Elmore County is quickly approaching on Sept. 6, 2019.

Right now the only two races getting much attention are the Mayoral race here in Mountain Home and that for Elmore County Sheriff. In all actuality though, only one of these races matter this year. That is the election of a new Mayor. The campaigning for sheriff has gotten off to a very early start with the primary for that position not even being on the ballot until March of 2020.

Election cycles can be confusing, but there is an easy way to remember what will be voted on each year. During odd years taxing districts hold their elections (cities, fire districts, school districts etc.) while in even years counties, states and the federal government holds theirs.

This all means that even though these other races are flying under the radar there are many other positions to keep an eye on and even throw your hat into the ring for this fall in Elmore County.
