Idaho may be famous for its potatoes, but dairy production is actually the leading agricultural industry for the state. Idaho is also one of the top five producers of dairy products in the country. In 1937 the National Dairy Council (NDC) named June as National Dairy Month, celebrating the dairy industry and their products such as: milk, cheese, ice cream, sour cream, yogurt, butter and all the other delicious products dairy cattle provide.

There are nearly 500 dairies and 600,000 dairy cows in the state.
