Michael Stephen "Mike" Coon

Michael Stephen “Mike” Coon, age 67, beloved son, brother, and Unk passed away peacefully with his nephew by his side in Boise on February 22, 2019. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 11, 1951, to Theodore and Dona (Watts) Coon.

Mike graduated from North High in Torrance, CA in 1969, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Cal State Fullerton in 1974.

Mike worked at Aztec Rent a Car, National Car Rental, Cactus Pete’s, and DTAG. While working at National Car Rental, he met a friend, Mike Keas, who he would later introduce to his only sister, Debbie, who would later become Debbie (Coon) Keas.

Mike married Nancy Gwinn on July 9, 1976, and they later divorced. He then married Cathy Stewart on May 13, 2000. Even though they also later divorced, Cathy and Michael remained dear friends thought out the remainder of her life.

Michael’s great-niece gave him the nickname of “Unk” when she was 18 months old, and the name stuck. He enjoyed playing golf, watching BSU football, and spending time with family. One golf story he told was “while playing in Las Vegas, he missed his Hole-in-One, by this much,” holding up his thumb and first finger.

Michael is survived by his nephew, Jason Keas (Barbara), his great-niece Kylee Keas and great-nephew Zachary Keas and his brother-in-law, Michael Keas (Alice) all of Mountain Home, one aunt, several cousins, and step-son Scott Stewart (Chelsea) of Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his beloved sister Debra (Coon) Keas, his grandparents, his former wife and friend Cathy Stewart, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A special thanks is extended to all the staff and residents at Ashley Manor on Cory Lane for the love and care shown to Mike and his family over the last year and a half.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Mountain View Cemetery. Cremation was under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
