Virginia Kohring

Virginia Kohring passed away January 7, 2019. Funeral services were held at 11:00AM, at the American Legion Hall, Post #83, in Bruneau and burial was held at the Bruneau Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Rost Funeral Home.

Virginia was born September 2, 1930 to Fay and Lauri Lahtinen of Little Valley; Bruneau, the seventh of eight children.

She attended grade school in Bruneau and graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1948. She then attended Albion State Normal School and received a Provisionary Teachers Certificate.

Following graduation, she married Kent G. Kohring and they spent 67 years together. During their years 1952-1959 the family grew as four children were born.

In 1961 the family moved to the farm in Bruneau where Virginia was active in the children’s school and 4-H activities.

Then in 1971 with her children approaching college age, she went to Boise Junior College to complete her BA in Elementary Education, graduating in 1973. Later she would earn a Masters Degree.

She spent the next 20 years teaching primarily second graders at West Elementary in Mountain Home.

Mom’s hobbies were reading, gardening and spoiling her family with her cooking and baking.

She is survived by her four children: Gary and wife Karen of Mtn. Home; Christine of Bruneau; Daniel of Twin Falls; and Yvonne of Salt Lake City; and five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters: Elenore Dudley of Anchorage, Alaska; Betty Bernadas of Mtn. Home and brother, David Lahtinen of Bruneau and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kent, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
