Mary Sharl Holm, 74, passed away from complications related to ALS (“Lou Gehrig’s disease”) on Saturday, January 5, 2019.

Born March 4, 1944 in Minneapolis Minn., Mary’s inner and outer beauty shined through her bright blue eyes and charming smile. She was quick to captivate anyone she met. Survived by two loving brothers, Dan and Greg Holm, Mary spent most of her youth and adult life in Colorado before happily settling in Mountain Home’. She devoted her professional life to supporting others through administrative work, her greatest career joy came during the years she was a school secretary helping children.

Marshal and Amy Skinner, Mary’s son and daughter, feel enormously grateful for the love their mom bestowed on them and their children, Austin, Ruby and Lucy. Mary’s three beautiful grandchildren were her pride and joy. In fact, her greatest heartbreaks when diagnosed with ALS in 2015 were (1) knowing she wouldn’t have the opportunity to witness her grandchildren’s lives unfold, and (2) not having more time to adventure in the Idaho hills and photograph wildlife with the love of her life, John Cristobal. When Mary met John in 2010, she found true happiness and love. Albeit far too late in life when she was blessed with his companionship, the nine years she laughed with John were – by far – the best years of her life.

A celebration of Mary’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Elks Lodge. Cremation was under the care of Rost Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Mary’s name to either the ALS Association in the hopes that a cure can be found for this brutal disease, or to the Mountain Home Street Walkers, a volunteer organization that collects donations for the fire department’s annual July 4 fireworks show. Mary cherished being part of the Street Walkers and the friendships she made. Mountain Home Street Walkers, c/o Marianne Bate, 880 Partridge Dr., Mtn Home, ID 83647.
