Richard Phillip Purdy, age 85, of Mountain Home, passed away on June 20, 2018. “Digger” was born on September 13, 1933, in Livingston, Montana to Fred Adam and Erma Ethel Purdy, with a twin sister who passed away when she was ten days old. His mother died shortly afterwards.

He married Jacqueline Jean Rup who had a son, William “Butch”, who was later adopted by Digger and passed away on December 1, 1997, leaving behind a daughter Harmony Purdy.

Digger and Jacky moved to Mountain Home in approximately 1967 and Jacky died on May 20, 1996. Digger then married Diane Sherman in 1997 and lived with her to his death. Digger was very active with the Rock and Jem Club of Elmore County and enjoyed being their Editor after Jacky’s death.

During his life, he worked as a civilian for the Air Force as a computer programmer, retiring after 35 years and then did long haul truck driving. He also worked for Simplot and the Department of Parks and Recreation, in Mountain Home for a period of time.

Digger leaves behind his wife, Diane Purdy, his granddaughter Harmony Purdy, and his great-granddaughter June Diana Hall.

A graveside inurnment with full military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Mountain View Cemetery, in Mountain Home. Arrangements are under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.
