Meet some of your local FFA members

Friday, March 23, 2018

My name is Elizabeth Bearden, I am a sophomore at Mountain Home High School and part of the Mountain Home FFA Chapter.

This year is our first year as a chapter and so far it’s been a great one. Our advisor. Kya Vines, has made it so we can go to multiple leadership conferences and different competitions.

Personally, my favorite event is Extemporaneous speaking. This event consists of the competitor getting a speech topic 30 minutes before presenting it and the only resources we can use is previous knowledge and a notebook with articles and papers, then our speech has to four to six minutes long. I placed second in districts this year and was one place away from going to state. For this being my first year in the competition I was very happy with how I did, I can’t wait for next year.

Some other events that we have gone to include Dairy Cattle Judging, FFA Creed Speaking, and Prepared Speaking. Then we go to conferences; these conferences show us how to lead our chapter in new ways and they really help with finding out who we are and what we want to get out of our FFA experience.

We have gone to two leadership conferences this year and are going to the State leadership conference (SLC) in April. At SLC we will compete in Dairy Judging and Horse Judging, then we get to go to different leadership sessions depending on what we would like to do.
