Court enters plea on Riggs' behalf, jury trial set for later this year

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

After being given two weeks, Scott Riggs chose to stand silent during his entry of plea on March 19.

Riggs is currently on trial for first degree murder in connection with the death of Paula Ferbrache. By choosing to stand silent on Monday, Judge Nancy Baskin entered a plea of "not guilty" on his behalf.

The judge then set the discovery deadline for July 17, with a status conference on May 21 at 9 a.m. A pretrial conference will be held on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m., with the jury trial set to begin on Aug. 23. Per the request of Riggs' public defender, 400 jurors will be summoned and each will answer a juror questionnaire before the final 12 are chosen.

At this time, the state has still not filed for the death penalty.
