Law enforcement brings autism awareness to Mountain Home

"We are not always perfect, but we do care."

This simple line from Carolyn Carter, a sergeant with the Elmore County Sheriff's Office, sums up the thought behind bringing autism awareness to the Mountain Home community.

Autism is constantly evolving, and is one of the many beasts people need to be prepared for, from first responders to school teachers.

"This is very important," Sheriff Mike Hollinshead said. "We have to be trained."

The Elmore County Sheriff's Office, in connection with the Mountain Home Police Department and various behavioral health centers, invited Sherri Coronado from the Boise Police Department to train first responders and community members how to approach people with autism in an effective way.
