Jacqueline Adelle Wheeler, 94, long time resident of Glenns Ferry, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Poplar Grove Assisted Living.

Jacqueline was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Hollywood, California, where she attended schools there and in Pasadena.

She met Virgil in North Hollywood and they were married May 3, 1941. They lived thru WWII being separated for almost 4 years because of the war, a major depression, and started over three times.

Together they had three children; Kim, Sally and Shari. Jackie has many friends who consider her their “other mother”, a role she valued.

Jackie continued going to school as an Art Major after she was married and went to work full time in 1955. She was an Ad Display Artist for the Fontana Newspaper for a few years. There she became an Art Editor for Base Guide Directors for several years.

From there she went to work for California Department of Corrections. She worked many years in the prison system as an officer and then becoming a counselor.

Her husband Virgil was born in Montana, and raised in Oregon and was a Sales Manager of an egg company for years.

They used to come thru Glenns Ferry and thought it would be a good place to retire and they did in 1978. They bought and sold property, and Jackie opened an antique shop in 1985.

Jackie and Virgil attended the Glenns Ferry First Baptist Church for 25 years, and Jackie continued to attend after Virgil died. After 30 years living in Glenns Ferry, she considered this her main home, she felt safe and close to her husband, who is buried at the Glenn Rest Cemetery.

Jackie loved the little cemetery and will be buried next to Virgil, on the hill overlooking Glenns Ferry. Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Glenns Ferry, followed by burial.

Survived by daughters Sally and Sharie, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Kim.
