Clayton Colthorp

Clayton Dean Colthorp, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 at the First Congregational Church, located at 515 E. 15th North, in Mtn Home. Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mtn Home.

Clayton was born to Orville and Dolly Colthorp, on Feb. 14, 1934, and raised on the family ranch. Clayton graduated from Mountain Home High School, in 1952 and after attending University of Idaho for a short time he decided that he wanted to go back home and be a rancher.

He served in the military and during that time he married Dorothy Townsend. To that union were born four wonderful children. They later divorced.

While he was still ranching he built many fences for the BLM as well as for many ranches in the area. It was said and verified that no one could build a straighter fence than Clayton Colthorp.

He began working for the Mountain Home Irrigation District as a ditch rider, making many friends, and eventually became the manager of the Irrigation District.

About that time (1984) he met and married Elin Masten. Along with a loving wife he received 5 more wonderful children. Step-children who loved him so much. They were married for 33 amazing years.

He was a conscientious and hard worker, he loved to laugh, dance, hike, camp and go hunting with family. He thought of his family as his legacy. He will be missed by many.

Clayton is survived by his wife Elin of 33 years, four children; Steve Colthorp, Sue Colthorp, Shelly (Zeke) Colthorp, Sheryl (Todd) Colthorp, also four stepchildren; Willie (Debbie) Masten, Steve (Debra) Masten, Paul (Jeaninne) Masten, and Anna Maria (John) New, his sister Carol Olds, niece Vonda Greer, 16 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson Timothy Masten.
