An AFAD legacy in his own right

Randy Valley, above, estimates 150 hours of volunteer work as the AFAD committee chairman, which he serves while balancing a full-time job as a financial advisor and his work as a beekeeper.

After 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, which took him to seven different bases, Randy Valley decided to settle down in Mountain Home when he retired. Shortly afterwards, he was asked to be a member of the Air Force Appreciation Day committee in 1995. The next year he was elected as chairman after the current chairman Bud Light asked Valley to take over.

Now, in 2017, Valley owns and operates the financial investment firm Waddel and Reed, still finding time to serve as AFAD committee chairman.

After 21 years, his retirement as chairman has come.
