Vonda Toombs

Our dear sweet mother, grandmother and friend, Vonda Toombs, 89, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 in Brigham City, Utah surrounded by her loving family.

Vonda was born on March 10, 1928 in Monroe, Utah. Vonda was the daughter of Rueben Anderton and Thelma Juanita White. Vonda attended school in Arimo, Idaho and later was married to Eugene Cooper in Arizona.

Together, they settled in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and raised a family of four children. Vonda worked in the food service industry for many years.

Vonda and Eugene eventually retired in Glenns Ferry. Vonda and Eugene had been married for 44 years when Eugene passed away. Later, Vonda went on to marry Raymond Toombs.

During retirement, Vonda had many hobbies, including sewing, cooking, gardening, crafting and spent many hours volunteering at the senior center and the disaster fund thrift store.

Vonda belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star (since 1954), where she served for a time as the Worthy Matron. Vonda was also a part of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW as a lifetime member.

Near the end of her life, Vonda met and took as her companion, Ernest Rogers. Vonda loved Ernie and often referred to him as her best friend and the love of her life.

Vonda is survived by her children Linda “Janie” Schanuel, and Susan (Darrel) Brower, daughter-in-law Margaret Cooper and son-in-law Willie T. Southern. Vonda had 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.

She is also survived by two brothers, Bardell “Bing” (Dee) Anderton and Cleve (Marilyn) Anderton, and one sister, Dola Fischer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, step-parents, two brothers, her husband Eugene and second husband Raymond, her son Alan, her daughter Carol and the love of her life, Ernie.

Viewing and Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017. Viewing services will begin at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m., both will be held at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Glenns Ferry.

Vonda will be interred at the Glenns Ferry Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
