James Morrison

James “Jim” Barclay Morrison (not to be confused with the lead singer of the Doors!), 63, of Grand View, beloved father, brother, son, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Dad was born July 8, 1954 in Boise, the oldest of four children to James L. and Dolly Morrison. He grew up in Hammett, Glenns Ferry, Mountain Home and Little Valley, Idaho.

He graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1972. While he was there, he also played various sports, was active in Student Government and learned the basics of Spanish.

Throughout his childhood and young adulthood, he farmed in Little Valley with his parents and siblings. He continued his education in the Spanish language to become fluent and admired the Hispanic people he worked closely with.

When Dad was a young boy, he loved to spend time at his Grandma Rae’s house in Hammett. He always appreciated the special spirit that was in her home and that followed her wherever she went.

He attributed it to her strong faith in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

When he was a teenager, he became interested in the teachings of the church and began taking the lessons.

At the age of 17 he was baptized a member of the church by his friend Grant Johnson and was a lifelong member.

He relied on his faith throughout his life for comfort and strength.

On March 14, 1974, he married Christina Mae McNeil. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in March 1975.

Together they had seven wonderful (at least we think we are!) children. They were married for 21 years and later divorced.

After their marriage, he continued to farm in Little Valley and began to raise a family.

He worked at various jobs over the years in order to support his growing family.

By his example his children learned to work hard and mowed lawns every summer throughout the Bruneau/Grand View area.

As his children started to grow up and move away, he began to take over mowing the lawns they had been mowing since they could push a mower.

He and his lawn mowers were a familiar sight in the area.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Morrison and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He is survived by his children, Victoria Collett (Edwin), Amanda Morrison, Jessica Raber (Brian), Ramona Massek (Danny) Samantha Ashcraft (Craig), James T. Morrison and Joseph Morrison.

He is also survived by his mother, Dolly Morrison-Gottsch, sisters, Renae Scott, Marie Hipwell and brother, John Morrison (Laura), his aunt Wilma Hoagland and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dad will be remembered for his sense of humor and ready laugh. Dad was known for his self sacrifice and work ethic.

He was a very hard worker and loved every minute of it.

All that knew him knew they could count on him for anything. He gave his all to all.

He was the most unselfish person we ever knew and loved his faith dearly.

Service for Dad will be held Thursday August 24, 2017 at the Bruneau Legion Hall. The viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial at Bruneau Cemetery to follow.

The funeral is under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.

His children would like to thank our Grandma Dolly for taking care of him in the last months of his life.
