Nicknamed the Buccaneers, the 428th Fighter Squadron at Mountain Home Air Force Base serves as a training unit for the Republic of Singapore air force.

Mountain Home Air Force Base offers an ideal training environment for members of the Republic of Singapore air force with many of these service members enjoying their time in southern Idaho, according to a senior officer assigned to the local training squadron.

Lt. Col. Boomer Oon highlighted the partnership between the United States and Singapore at the local Air Force base during a briefing with the Elmore County commissioners last week.

Oon started the briefing by referring to his country with its nickname, the "red dot" county. It's a reference not to its politics or government but the fact that it's often identified on maps by a red dot due to its tiny size.
