Local volunteers help spruce up middle school

Students chip away aging paint off the columns located at the entrance of Hacker Middle School as work began to repaint the area.

What started off as an Eagle Scout project for a local Boy Scout troop turned in to a community effort aimed at beautifying Hacker Middle School.

Earlier this month, volunteers from Pioneer Federal Credit Union, artists from the Community Canvas of Mountain Home and Boy Scouts started to transform the front entrance of the school on East Jackson Street.

"We will all be painting the pillars in front of the school with tiger paws and tiger stripes," said Amber Cobos, who helped organize the project. "Then the Hacker (school) logo will be painted on a board and mounted to the tile wall in front of the school."
