Pine subdivision residents seek local flooding solution

The Love Ridge Fire came close to the state park, but fire crews were able to keep the flames from entering its boundaries.

Flooding that caused significant damage to the Pine community became a main topic addressed by the Elmore County board of commissioners as residents of the rural community expressing their displeasure of how the county responded to this emergency.

During an afternoon session June 23, Dave Lemons and Andrea Tuning spoke to the commissioners as they addressed concerns raised by others in the Ballantyne neighborhood located in Pine in a letter signed by these residents.

After combing through documentation they found, people in this neighborhood claim the Ballantyne levee was built in 1959 by the Army Corps of Engineers. Afterward, Elmore County was named as the sponsor to maintain flood control and mitigate flood damage, the letter stated.
