Lightning triggers range fires across county

Wednesday, June 28, 2017

A lightning storm Monday afternoon triggered multiple range fires across parts of Elmore and Owyhee counties with crews continuing to fight these blazes into Tuesday.

The Bureau of Land Management reported a total of nine fires in Elmore County attributed to the storm and as of press time had already consumed more than 10,000 acres of range land.

As of Tuesday morning, crews had knocked down the flames from these fires, but none of them were contained or brought under control, according to Jared Jablonski, fire information and prevention officer with the BLM. However, none of these fires were threatening homes or other structures.
