An investigation began into what caused a range fire that scorched 600 acres of private land west of Glenns Ferry on Sunday.

The fire was first reported around 8 p.m. that evening in the vicinity of milepost 119 near the interstate.

The BLM responded with a team of 41 firefighters that used six engines, one dozer, a water tender and a helitack crew to contain the fire and halt its progress by 2 a.m. Monday.

Crews are continuing to mop up the smoldering grass and brush with an estimated control time of 4 p.m. Monday.
