Samaritan helped save a life

Wednesday, May 31, 2017

Dear editor,

I wanted to take a minute to thank a good Samaritan that went out of her way to save the life of a kitten that would eventually find her way into the lives of myself and my family.

The staff at the Mountain Home Animal Shelter relayed to me just how lucky this precious animal was to survive the first two months of her life.

Earlier this month, this tiny feline somehow managed to stray from its own family and wandered into a nearby backyard where the woman spotted her. She took steps to ensure the feline remained safe from her own dogs, which were not very "cat friendly."

She then took this young kitten to the city animal shelter in hopes of finding the owner. With no one stepping forward looking for this kitten, the shelter staff put her up for adoption.

On May 17, my husband and daughter went to the shelter, where they immediately fell in love with her, knowing I would, too. The following day, she was welcomed into her "forever home" by joining our family.

We chose Momoko as her name, which in Japanese translates to "little peach," which fits her personality perfectly. In addition to bringing my family so much joy, she's been a welcome friend to our seven-month-old kitten, who desperately wanted a companion to play with.

To the good Samaritan who saved Momoko from a possibly horrible fate, I extend my personal thanks and sincere gratitude. You not only saved a life, but you helped provide my family with a wonderful feline companion.
