Students inducted into academic excellence society

Miya Ingram, who was inducted into Mountain Home Junior High School's Academic Excellence Society last year, lights a candle signifying the integrity each of these students must accept to be included within the school organization.

Honoring traditions of excellence, integrity, determination and service, representatives from Mountain Home Junior High School welcomed 69 students into its new society for academic excellence.

Mountain Home Junior High School Principal Dan Cochran said those considered for membership into the academic excellence organization must meet a minimum grade point average. Because of this, only one in six students at the school qualify to join this group of students.

Hundreds of parents packed into the Mountain Home Junior High School gym to witness the event, which added seventh and eighth grade students into the organization.

Before they accepted their oath into the society, each student had to meet established criteria set by the school organization.

Cochran presented medals to each of this year's inductees as part of Thursday's ceremony.
