Local Memorial Day event set for Monday morning

Saturday, May 27, 2017
Members from the local American Legion posts and other volunteers will plant more than 1,000 American flags next to the gravesites of veterans buried at Mountain View Cemetery in preparation for this year's Memorial Day observance, which begins at 11 a.m. Monday.

Mountain Home will host Memorial Day services beginning at 11 a.m. Monday at Mountain View Cemetery.

Americans pay tribute on Memorial Day to those veterans who have fallen defending this country. The observance traces its origins to the days following the Civil War when Southerners marked the graves of those who died fighting for the Confederacy.

"Today, we honor all of America's war dead-those who died that freedom may live," said Tom Coester, commander of American Legion Post 26. "Their selfless sacrifice spans the history of America from the Revolutionary War to the present day."
