Students become honorary community leaders

Mountain Home Elks Lodge representatives Annette McAlpin and Cristena Ford surround this year's honorary city and county leaders and their respective counterparts prior to the start of this year's activities. The local lodge hosts the yearly civic leader orientation program.

Three students from Hacker Middle School and another from West Elementary School received an up-close look at how city and county agencies function after they became honorary community leaders on Friday.

Ava O’Donnell was selected as the Mountain Home's mayor for the day while Jose Barroso was named the city's honorary police chief.

Meanwhile, Layla Hidalgo was named Mountain Home's fire chief for the day while Austin Spies was selected as the county's honorary sheriff.
