Fish & Game: Grab a rod, go fishing at a local pond

Ponds across Elmore County offer prime places to go fishing during the spring until warmer weather draws people to larger lakes and reservoirs, Fish and Game officials said.

Warm, sunny days have some anglers in the state itching to go fishing, but that weather means melting snow blows out rivers and puts a chill on some lakes and reservoirs.

The answer to this fishing dilemma often prompts people to stay local and drop a line in a pond in their neighborhood, a local park or a within a short drive away.

Ponds are the underdogs of Idaho’s fishing waters, but acre—for—acre, they can provide as much fishing opportunity as Idaho’s famed destinations, according to officials with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
